Mangaluru, Nov 15: Bharatiya Janata Party supremo Amit Shah today released a booklet highlighting the achievements of Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel after being elected to the parliament for the second time in 2014.

The book titled Modiya Hadiyalli Naalkane Varsha (Fourth Year on Modi’s Path) was released in the presence of district BJP leaders at Ocean Pearl Hotel in the city.

There was speculation that his visit was to plan strategies for next year’s Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka and neighbouring Kerala.

Mr Shah, who landed at Mangaluru International Airport at around 8:30 p.m. last night arrived at the Akhil Bharatiya Karya Vibhag Pracharak Varg of the RSS at Sanghaniketan, its local headquarters at Mannagudda, late in the evening.

Cow slaughter, Sabarimala shrine row and Ram temple are some of the issues which were reportedly discussed at a meeting in the presence of Amit Shah on last night. With the BJP sweeping the 2018 Assembly elections in six coastal and Malnad districts in Karnataka, and the party now eyeing the Sabarimala issue in the neighbouring Kerala, Mr. Shah’s visit assumed significance.

The BJP in Kerala had launched its six-day Sabarimala Rath Yatra from neighbouring Kasaragod to Pathanamthitta on November 8. The yatra flagged off by State BJP chief B.S. Yeddyurappa and led by Kerala BJP State president P.S. Sreedharan Pillai ended on Tuesday.

About 250 full-time RSS volunteers from Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Maharashtra are participating in a ‘refresher course’, from November 11, being held under the leadership of Suresh ‘Bhaiyajji’ Joshi, sarkaryavah (national general secretary) of the RSS.

Bengaluru, Jun 17: The Opposition leader in the Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Wednesday strongly urged Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa to desist from invoking amendment to the Land Reforms Act, saying it would make buying land easier for the corporate companies and the rich.

In a hard-hitting letter to the Chief Minister, a copy of which was released to the media, the Congress leader had urged to rescind the decision from amending to the Karnataka Land Reforms Act and also Agriculture Produces Marketing Committee Act.

Asserting that the state government's move was only intending to help to the land grabbers, Siddaramaiah, also the former chief minister, said easing of restrictions to buy land to the tune of over 216 acres per individual would sound a death knell to the farm sector.

Bengaluru, Jan 10: State’s primary and secondary education minister, S Suresh Kumar on Friday asked the Department of Public Instruction to register a complaint in the cybercrime police station against the teacher who shared a video of a child mispronouncing a Kannada word.

The viral video shows the child from a government school incorrectly pronouncing the word 'Pakkelubu' (ribcage).

The minister observed, 'It is normal for children to pronounce words incorrectly and only repetitive practise will make them say it correctly. If a video of such a mistake is made and spread on the Internet the child will see it in future and be demoralised and might start hate learning. The person who made and posted this video has committed a grave crime.

Bengaluru, Jan 21: Karnataka Chief Minister's political adviser MP Renukacharya has courted controversy yet again with his remarks targeting the Muslim community at a pro-CAA rally in Karnataka on Monday.

Addressing a rally in support of the new citizenship law, the BJP lawmaker accused Muslims of collecting weapons in mosques instead of praying. "There are few traitors who sit in a masjid and write fatwas. They collect weapons inside the mosque instead of praying. Is this why you want a Masjid," Renukacharya said on Monday.

Renukacharya said he won't hesitate to use the money allotted to Muslims for Hindus. "I will resort to such politics in my taluk where the money allotted for Muslims can be used for Hindus. I will put you [Muslims] in your place and show what politics is," said Renukacharya, who is a close aide of CM BS Yediyurappa.

This is not the first time a Karnataka BJP leader has made communal remarks targeting the minority community. Earlier, BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy had made controversial remarks at a pro-citizenship law protest in Ballari when he asked those opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act to think of the "consequences" if the majority community members hit the streets against them.

The MLA had said, "If you do any drama, then if 100 per cent people come, understand what will be your situation. Congress people are lying to you, believing them you are coming on streets. We are 80 per cent, you are 17 per cent, if we react, what will be your situation? Be careful," Reddy had said.

Following outrage, a case was filed against Somashekar Reddy for alleged provocative speech targeting those protesting against the amended citizenship law.
