Meerut, Dec 4: Police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh, who was murdered by the Hindutva extremists yesterday at Syana village of Bulandshahr district in Uttar Pradesh, was also the investigation officer (IO) in the 2015 lynching of Mohammad Akhlaq by another group of Hindutva extremists at Bisadha village in Greater Noida’s Dadri.

Singh had collected all the circumstantial evidence after the incident, including the meat sample from Akhlaq’s house. However he was transferred to Varanasi in the middle of the investigation, by the government.

“He was the IO of the Akhlaq lynching case from September 28, 2015 to November 9, 2015. The charge-sheet in the case was filed by a different IO in March 2015," said UP ADG (law and order) Anand Kumar.

Originally a resident of Targana village in Etah, Singh joined UP Police in 1998 and spent considerable period of his police career in the Meerut zone, including Meerut, Saharanpur and Muzaffarnagar districts. Singh is survived by wife and two teenage sons.

“Singh will always be known for his stronghold over crime. He was very hard-working and always had a smiling face. After being transferred from Bisadha, he was sent to Varanasi and later to Mathura where he was promoted. He was the SHO Vrindavan for a very long time before he was deployed in Bulandshahr,” a batch-mate was quoted as saying by a news paper.

During an encounter in Vrindavan in January 2016, he had also suffered injuries. He took over as station officer of Syana just two months ago.

Prashant Kumar, ADG (Meerut zone), said, “We have lost an able officer in this violence. We will ensure the perpetrators of this attack are not left unpunished. A high-level investigation is under way.”

Tumkur, Jun 2: Karnataka Agriculture Minister BC Patil on Monday said that state will not be affected due to locust swarm as it has moved to other states.

"There will be no effect as locust insects diverted to other states after they came from Pakistan. We were also worried and were prepared to face it, luckily we will not be affected by insects," he said.

Locust is a type of grasshoppers and moves in large numbers and devastates crops. Several parts of Rajasthan including Ganganagar have reported locust attacks.

There is a prediction of another attack in June this year.

Mangaluru, Jul 13: Air India Express flight brought around 170 passengers from Bahrain to Mangaluru under Vande Bharat Mission yesterday.

This is the first VBM flight from Bahrain to Mangaluru. The flight took off from Bahrain at 10 am on Sunday and landed at Mangaluru International airport at 4.45 pm.

Even though thousands of Indian expatriates from other gulf countries were brought to Mangaluru in past few weeks, no flight was arranged from Bahrain so far. Hence, several Mangalureans including senior citizens, women and patients were stranded in Bahrain for months together.

Local entrepreneur and president of Indian Overseas Congress (IOC) Mohammed Mansoor, who saw the plight of the hapless Indian expatriates in Bahrain had discussions with the Indian embassy in Bahrain and convinced it to arrange a special Air India Express flight under the Vande Bharat Mission.

IOC, along with the cooperation of ‘KHK Heroes’ had arranged meal kits for passengers during their flight to Mangaluru. IOC had also contacted all the Mangaluru-based NRIs who wanted to fly back to India and made a list with the help of Indian embassy to avoid any untoward incidents.

IOC had also given details of hotels to be quarantined in Mangaluru and Udupi, names of nodal officers to be contacted and emergency telephone numbers. The passengers were given a warm farewell by the office bearers of IOC from Bahrain international airport.

The effort taken by Mohammed Mansoor, president of IOC is lauded by all. All the passengers who travelled by the flight have thanked IOC and its office bearers whole heartedly.
