Lucknow, Dec 29: Investigation into the coldblooded murder of Uttar Pradesh’s upright police inspector Subodh Kumar Singh has brought to light a shocking truth that he was brutally tortured and his thumb was chopped by the self-proclaimed saviours of Hindutva before he was shot dead in broad daylight at Bulandshahr earlier this month.

According to police sources, the officer was hit with a sharp axe first, assaulted with stones and sticks before being shot dead.

The police on Thursday arrested Prashant Natt, the person they claimed shot dead officer Singh after snatching his service pistol. They are now trying to nab others who assaulted the officer before he was shot.

The mob also tried to burn the officer’s body, which was hanging by the door of his official jeep in the middle of the fields in Syana, said SSP Bulandshahr Prabhakar Chaudhary.

The police are on the lookout for accused Kalua, who allegedly attacked the officer first with an axe, causing him deep injury.

“The mob became violent after that,” said Mr. Chaudhary, adding that 4-5 persons were involved in the killing of the officer.

Johny, the accused who snatched the officer’s pistol, is under arrest.

The police said Natt was arrested on the basis of eyewitness accounts, videos of the incident and intelligence information gathered. His name was deliberately avoided in the FIR as part of a strategy to nab him, officers said.

Mr. Chaudhary said Natt had been the main suspect from day one and his family fled from Bulandshahr soon after the incident.

The officer also said that Singh shot at the mob in self-defence before being overpowered.

SP Bulandshahr (City) Atul Srivastava said Natt had “confessed to his involvement in the incident and shooting the bullet that killed” Singh.

Singh was shot dead during mob violence that erupted in the Syana area of Bulandshahr on December 3 after Hindutva groups alleged cow slaughter and brought the carcasses to the police outpost in a tractor trolley.

Singh was shot near his left eyebrow by a .32 bore weapon, the police had earlier said on the basis of the autopsy report.

Singh was the investigating officer of the Dadri lynching case of Akhlaq from September 28, 2015, to November 9, 2015.

Bajrang Dal activist Yogesh Raj, who was named as the main instigator in the mob violence as per the FIR, is still absconding; so is BJP Yuva Morcha Bulandshahr city president Shikhar Agarwal.

Bengaluru, May 29: Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa and BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel will resolve any differences of opinion among party leaders in Karnataka, according to Minister of State for Railways Suresh Angadi

If anybody has any issues, they should get them resolved by talking with Yediyurappa and Kateel. Internal matters, if any, should not be discussed in public, he said.

Angadi told reporters here on Friday that differences of opinion among party leaders have not come to his notice. A section of party leaders assembling for dinner should not be constituted as a meeting of dissidents. BJP has internal democracy and any differences of opinion if exist will be resolved at the party forum.

He added that if MLA Umesh Katti has any issues regarding cabinet berth or regarding assurances given to him by Yediyurappa during the Lok Sabha elections, he should talk with the chief minister.

Everyone in politics has aspirations and it's natural. Those aspiring for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections should talk with the chief minister or the state president, he said.

Ramesh Katti was former MP and there was nothing wrong in him being aspirant for Rajya Sabha elections, he said.

Angadi said, "Party is supreme. We shall work for the victory of party candidates irrespective of who they were".

A state cabinet meeting was held on Thursday. Many of the MLAs too had been to Bengaluru for constituency-related works. As they had been meeting after a long time, all gathered for dinner, he expressed.

Bengaluru, Feb 18: A 26-year-old Kannada singer committed suicide over alleged dowry harassment on Monday. Sushmitha, a playback singer who got married to Sharath Kumar about one-and-a-half years ago, hung herself from the ceiling at her parent's home in Nagarabhavi, Bengaluru on Monday.

The singer sent a Whatsapp to her brother and mother before hanging herself early morning on Monday. She accused her husband and his relatives of dowry harassment in her death note.

According to Bengaluru Police, the singer has accused her husband, his sister and his aunt of harassing her for dowry in her death note. On Monday morning, Sushmitha's brother alerted the police after he found her dead body hanging from the ceiling. She used her dupatta to hang herself.

Sushmitha had lent her voice for Kannada songs in films like Haalu Thuppa and Srisamanya.

Police informed that Sushmitha sent a Whatsapp message to her brother, Sachin, at around 1 am on Sunday and explained that her husband Sharath and her relatives have been harassing her since the time she got married. Sachin read the message at around 5:30am and rushed to her room where he found her hanging from the ceiling.

In the text message, Sushmitha wrote that her husband, Sharath, his sister, Geetha, and his aunt, Vydehi, harassed her and they were the reason behind her ending her life. She also stated that she did not want to end her life in their house and hence came to her parents’ house.

The Annapoorneshwari Nagar police have registered a case of dowry death, charging her husband and his sister and aunt based on complaint filed by Sushmitha’s mother Meenakshi. The three accused are on run after hearing about her death and police said that efforts are on to trace them.

Sushmitha's husband Sharath Kumar is a manager in a car showroom and a resident of KS Nagar in Bengaluru.
