Karnataka appeals to European Investment Bank to fund state projects

Bengaluru, Jan 12: The Karnataka government has signed an agreement with European Investment Bank (EIB) under which the Bank will be funding 200 million euros for Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) for Phase-2 Reach-6 project from Nagawara to Gottigere in the City.

Thanking the EIB for funding the metro project, Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara said "I would like to reiterate our Chief Minister's request that EIB may consider funding other infrastructure and sustainability projects in the State."

Stating that this is the second tranche of the payment of 500 million Euros, Parameshwara said that the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has also agreed to lend 300 million Euros. In all, 800 million Euro will come for the project.

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy, State Government top officials and EIB member Maria Shaw Barragan were present at the signing of the agreement, according to an official release here on Saturday.

Later, Dr Parameshwara addressing a delegation from Malaysia that they are welcome to extend financial and technical support to various City development projects. "We welcome all help and also assure all facilities needed."

He was speaking to a 11 member delegation headed by Malaysia MP and political leaders headed by Dato Seri Abrahim Seri during a meeting in which Mr Kumaraswamy was also present.

Dr Parameshwara said that the State is in forefront since 1980 in IT-BT and more than 80 per cent of IT & BT companies are located in Karnataka. The State is first in the country to come out with a separate Policy for Startups and recently the State has come out with a separate Bio Technology.

He also sought help from the delegation for the proposed Elevated Corridor project to be taken up in the State Capital Bengaluru to ease traffic congestion.

Hubballi/Vijayapura, Feb 26: A 40-year-old resident of Talikoti town in Vijayapura was arrested on Tuesday and charged with sedition for allegedly saying 'I Love Pak Army' on a social media page and sharing a video of a song, 'Pakistan Zindabad'.

Police said they registered an FIR against Meru alias Merusab Hasansab Byagwat on a complaint filed by a contractor, Ashok Rathod of Nebgiri Tanda.

Byagwat has been booked under IPC sections pertaining to sedition (124A), promoting enmity between communities and making assertions prejudicial to national integration (153 A & B), among others.

In his complaint, Rathod said Meru had posted the video on his social media account on February 22. Rathod said he took a screenshot of the video and made some inquiries before approaching police.

Police said Meru would be produced in court soon.

Police said they are keeping a watch on pro-Pakistan activities. On Monday, slogans praising Pakistan surfaced on the walls of a government primary school in Budarsinghi. In the third week of February, three Kashmiri students shot a video hailing Pakistan and circulated it on social media in Hubballi.

Bengaluru, Feb 4: A 33-year old woman techie allegedly stabbed her mother to death and made a murderous assault on her younger brother before fleeing their home here, police said on Tuesday.

According to police, the woman fatally stabbed her mother using a knife and attacked the brother early on Monday.

The injured brother has been hospitalised here.

A search was on for the techie and the motive for her action under investigation, police said.

The woman, employed as a software engineer with a company here, earlier had told her mother and 30-year old brother that she has been transferred to Hyderabad and she may have to relocate.

The brother told police that in the early morning on Monday he saw his sister searching something desperately and offered to assist, which she refused.

However, minutes later she made a murderous assault on him, he told police, adding when he screamed for help and called his mother, his sister said she has killed their mother.

She stabbed him and attacked with an iron rod before fleeing, her brother told police.

The body of the mother was found in another room in the house.

"We are still investigating the matter. We are not clear about the motive behind the murder," a police officer told media adding the woman was yet to be arrested.

Kalaburagi, May 15: Former Karnataka Minister Dr Sharanprakash Patil and 22 others, including several local Congress leaders, have been booked for violating lockdown guidelines by conducting a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13.

The FIR was registered on Thursday against 23 persons, including the former MLA and 21 local Congress leaders, under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Congress leader Patil and his followers had conducted a meeting at a convention hall in Sulpeth town on May 13, following which sectoral magistrate Muneer Ahmed lodged a complaint.

This comes as the country of under lockdown and the Centre and states have issued strict social distancing and other norms to be followed to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
