Bengaluru, Jan 16: The police have arrested a 45-year-old married man for cheating and robbing at least 16 women from across the state by promising marriage. All of his victims are widows and divorcees.

D M Ramakrishna, a resident of Doddamulagodu village in T Narasipura taluk, Mysuru district, not only cheated each woman of money and stole their jewellery, but also had physical relationships with some of them.

The number of victims could further increase as the Seshadripuram police could arrest the culprit only recently. Ramakrishna had been trapping vulnerable widows and divorcees since 2006.

“We are in the process of verifying cases registered against Ramakrishna at different police stations across the state. The number of victims could increase and we are yet to ascertain the total amount of money involved,” said a senior police official.

Women from Bengaluru, Chikmagaluru, Hubballi-Dharwad and Mysuru had contacted Ramakrishna over marriage proposals.

According to the police, Ramakrishna used to place advertisements in newspapers seeking marriage proposals from widows and divorcees.

When the women got in touch, he would ask them to send their profiles and address proofs across through post, which the victims did unsuspectingly.

Ramakrishna would then use the address proof documents to obtain SIM cards to fake his identity. He would then scout and contact other widows and divorcees, learn their economic status and would cheat them as well. After some cheating cases were registered, the police tracked the SIM cards and ended up at the homes of women who had contacted Ramakrishna.

One of the women whom Ramakrishna had trapped in Koramangala, was lured with a government job offer. Ramakrishna told her that he was a senior official at the health department’s recruitment division. He could get jobs for many people with his influence, he had told her.

The woman spread the news in her circles and Ramakrishna collected Rs 22 lakh from various job aspirants eventually. She herself gave Rs 3.9 lakh to Ramakrishna for the job, but all of them were cheated. After failing to get the job and the realisation of the fraud, the woman from Akshay Nagar filed a police complaint.

That’s not all. Ramakrishna once posed himself as a widower and expressed interest in marrying a woman. As the duo met, Ramakrishna took her to a hotel, laced her juice with sedatives and sexually assaulted her, the police said.

After failing to pass the SSLC exam, Ramakrishna took up farming for a while. Later, Ramakrishna joined as a clerk at a college in Shivamogga. In time, he migrated to Mysuru and lived with his wife and children.

In Mysuru, he was involved in a cheating case after which he was jailed for a while in 2015. Upon release, Ramakrishna continued a wayward life, the police added.

This person will not be subjected to any punishment for marrying many women and deserting them as he is not a Muslim.   According new rules from central govt person eligibloe for punishment should be a muslim who has given talaq based on sharia law.     For others, there is no issue.   They can marry any number of women and desert them as our great great leader has done.

Bengaluru, Aug 3: All those who met Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, who has tested positive for Covid-19, in the last three-four days will have to be quarantined, Medical Education Minister Sudhakar K said on Monday.

He also said those who came in contact with Yediyurappa in a couple of programmes in the past week are being traced.

Sudhakar, a medical doctor himself, said Yediyurappa has "very mild cough and his chest is clear."

"I think eight to ten days," he told news agency when asked how long the Chief Minister would have to remain in hospital.

Sudhakar said he is also getting himself tested as a few of his office staff had tested positive.

"All those who met the Chief Minister in the last 3-4 days...ideally they should be quarantined till they receive their results/report. Those who came in contact with him in a couple of programmes will have to isolate themselves and subject themselves for testing," the Minister said.

On the Chief Minister meeting Governor Vajubhai Vala, along with Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai last Friday, Sudhakar said as a result "They also become primary contacts. Ideally, they should also be quarantined and tested."

Yediyurappa who was hospitalised on Sunday night after testing positive for Covid-19 was "doing well" and is "clinically stable", the hospital treating him said.

The 77-year old leader is being monitored by a team of doctors at the Manipal hospital here.

"He is doing well, is clinically stable and will be monitored closely by our team," the hospital said in a statement late last night.

"I have tested positive for coronavirus. Whilst I am fine, I am being hospitalised as a precaution on the recommendation of doctors. I request those who have come in contact with me recently to be observant and exercise self-quarantine," Yediyurappa had said in his tweet.

Yediyurappa was in home quarantine a couple of weeks ago, after some staff members in his home office were found infected with the virus. Subsequently, he tested negative for Covid-19.

Belagavi, Feb 11: Tension prevailed for sometime here after a few villagers spotted four country-made pistols disposed in the garbage site by the road between Markandey Nagar – Waghavade village on Sunday. Police rushed to the spot and seized the arms which are believed to be of Portugal era.

Sources said some villagers noticed a pistol lying along with heaps of refuse. They informed Bhavakanna Patil, the owner of the agricultural field adjacent to the garbage site. Patil and the villagers checked the garbage and found three more pistols totalling four.

Police said the pistols are about 50 to 60 years old. Going by their condition, all rusted, it is believed that they were left unused for a long time. The Belagavi rural police who have filed a suo motu case related to the incident are getting into the skin of case to trace the owners and those who disposed them in the garbage pit.

According to preliminary investigation, it is learnt that such pistols were in vogue during Portugal rule in Goa. There are chances that those who inherited the arms may have disposed it for the fear of possessing weapon illegally. The chances of some notorious people who reside in the vicinity near Waghavade and surrounding areas, where burglaries and dacoity are frequently reported, disposing the arms due to the fear of police also cannot be ignored. Police Commissioner Lokesh Kumar was not available for comments.

New Delhi, Mar 3: Bharatiya Janata Party leader Kapil Mishra, who instigated violence in northeast Delhi by provoking mobs, has now been provided with 24x7 security. After he claimed threat to his life, he has been provided with “Y” category security — which entitles him to six security personnel round-the-clock to guard him in and outside the city.

He had fought the 2020 Delhi Assembly elections by giving inflammatory remarks around the anti-Citizenship Amendment Act in Shaheen Bagh, and lost to Aam Aadmi Party candidate. But he continued to issue provocative remarks.

While there is clear evidence of his scandalous statements just a day before the violence was unleashed on Muslims in Delhi last week where around 50 people were killed, no action has been taken against him so far. Instead, he is being treated as a hero in his party.

As per sources, Mishra complained that he got life threats over the past week in wake of the violence and based on his request, the Delhi Police has provided the security cover.

Mishra had taken to social media platform Twitter and alleged that he was receiving threats via WhatsApp, Twitter and Facebook, from Indian and foreign accounts.

“I am constantly being threatened with murder on the phone, on WhatsApp, on email. Hundreds of threats are being given continuously from the country and abroad. I don’t fear this hate campaign against me,” he had said on Twitter on March 1.

Mishra had on February 23 made an incendiary speech, following which North-East Delhi witnessed anti-Muslim violence.

The Supreme Court of India on Monday said it will on Wednesday (March 4) hear a plea that sought immediate FIRs against Kapil Mishra, Union Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and other leaders for their recent hate speech, which allegedly triggered the violence in Delhi. The plea was filed by Delhi violence survivors.

The apex court bench, comprising Chief Justice SA Bobde, listed the matter for hearing after senior advocate Colin Gonsalves, who is appearing on behalf of the survivors told the SC that the Delhi High Court had last week adjourned the matter for six weeks even as “people are dying every day”.
