Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan are like ‘traitors’, says RSS leader Indresh Kumar

Aligarh, Jan 29: Veteran actors Naseeruddin Shah and Aamir Khan have been called "traitors" by senior leader of Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh (RSS) Indresh Kumar. "They may be good actors but they don't deserve respect as they are traitors. They are like Mir Jafar and Jaichand," Indresh Kumar said at a public event in Aligarh on Monday. He also targeted Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu.

This is not the first time that Naseeruddin Shah is facing the Sangh parivaar's wrath. Both the RSS and the BJP leaders had called him a "traitor" after he had claimed that India has turned into a land where a cow is given more importance than a policeman, after the killing of Inspector Subodh Kumar Singh in Bulandshahr mob violence.

The Uttar Pradesh BJP chief, Mahendranath Pandey had said "In one of his movies, he played the role of a Pakistani agent. I think he is growing into that character now." Mr Pandey was referring to Sarfarosh, a 1999 Bollywood movie that had Naseeruddin Shah playing the role of a Pakistani spy. His performance had won him widespread critical acclaim.

The RSS leader said that India needs Muslims like former president Dr APJ Abdul Kalam and not like Ajmal Kasab, the terrorist who was caught alive after 26/11 attacks. "India doesn't need Muslim youth like Kasab, Yakub, and Ishrat Jahan but rather those who walk on the path shown by Kalam. Those who walk on the path of Kasab will be considered only as traitors," said the RSS leader.

Indresh Kumar also alleged that that the Congress, Left parties, communal forces and few judges are responsible for the delay in the Ayodhya case hearing.

"The first reason for the delay in the construction of Ram Temple is Congress, second are the Left parties, third is the communal religious forces and the fourth are a few judges who are delaying justice. I appeal to the saints and sadhus to sit on dharna outside the Congress office, offices of the Left parties and outside the house of Judges who are delaying the matter," he added.

The Supreme Court cancelled the hearing in the Ayodhya title suit case, slated for January 29, due to the unavailability of one of the judges, Justice SA Bobde.

Lucknow, Jul 19: The animal markets, which are usually bustling with activity ahead of Bakrid, are desolate this year.

The Covid-19 pandemic has shorn all festivals of public celebrations, and people are apprehensive that the tradition of animal sacrifice may be affected due to social distancing norms.

Also there is a massive drop in demand for sacrificial animals due to the financial impact of the crisis.

Chairman of All India Jamiat-ul-Quresh Sirajuddin Qureshi urged the government to come out with guidelines for carrying out the celebrations in the traditional way.

The festival will fall on July 31 or August 1. Buyers and sellers start thronging the animal markets almost two weeks ahead of the festival. But this year only a negligible number of buyers have turned up in animal markets in old Lucknow areas including Nakkhas, according to traders.

"It is very difficult to say as to what the government is thinking. 'Qurbani' is a matter of faith for the Muslims. We appeal to the government to deliberate and find a solution. This is a national problem, and our office bearers are speaking to different state governments," Qureshi said.

In the absence of guidelines, not many madrassas are buying animals for sacrifice, he said.

"The madrasas where collective 'qurbani' is done, are also not coming forward. In Bakrid, along with goats, buffaloes are also sacrificed. The government should ensure that people who are transporting the animals are not harassed by the police," Qureshi said.

Prominent Muslim cleric Khalid Rasheed Farang Mahali said he had raised the issue with the Uttar Pradesh chief minister.

"I have recently met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath requesting him to issue guidelines for Bakrid. I am hopeful that the guidelines will be released soon," he said.

Rahat Ali, a goat trader from Rajasthan said, thousands of people will be affected due to the reduced demand for animals.

"The animal trade works in a chain involving farmers who rear animals, small traders and big traders.

"The traders buy the animals from the farmers. These are then sent to various states like Maharashtra, Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh. In the absence of demand, I did not purchase animals this year," he said.

Sajid, who supplies goats to various districts in western Uttar Pradesh, said the lockdown has affected the livelihood of people and not many have the money to buy animals for sacrifice.

"The lockdown has drained the people of their money. As a result, the animals are not getting sold," he said.

The Maharashtra government has come out with guidelines for Eid al-Adha, also known as Bakrid or Id-ul-Zuha, noting that there is a ban in place on all religious programmes and people should offer "namaz" in their homes and not in mosques.

It also said sacrificial animals should be bought online or over the phone as markets dealing with them will be closed, adding that "qurbani" should preferably be symbolic.

There will be no relaxation in restrictions for Eid in containment zones, and people are directed not to congregate in public places on the day of the festival, it added.

New Delhi, Feb 16: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal was on Sunday sworn-in as the Chief Minister of Delhi for the third time in a row at Ramlila Maidan here, after his party registered a massive victory in the recently concluded Delhi Assembly polls.

Kejriwal was administered the oath of office and secrecy by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal.

The sprawling Ramlila Maidan reverberated with sounds of thousands of people cheering for the AAP leader.

Kejriwal who received a hero's welcome here had extended an invitation to the people of Delhi urging them to attend the swearing-in ceremony to witness "the son of Delhi" taking oath today.

The AAP nearly repeated its 2015 performance in the elections, sweeping the Assembly polls winning 62 seats in the 70-member Assembly, in the face of a high-voltage campaign by the BJP, which fielded a battery of Union Ministers and Chief Ministers in its electioneering spearheaded by Home Minister Amit Shah.
