Phone friendships lead to sex: 5 held for ‘raping’ minor girl on different occasions

Mangaluru, Jul 24: As many as five youths, aged between 23 and 27 years, have been arrested by the Dakshina Kannada district police on charge of sexually assaulting a minor girl after making friendship with her on different occasions.

The incident took place the limits of Uppinangady police station in Puttur taluk. All the arrests were made yesterday.

The arrested have been identified as Chandraksha,25, a resident of Ilanthila, Sandeep, 23, a resident of Uruval village, Harshendra,24, a resident of Kaniyur, Lavakumar, 27, a resident of Kaniyoor and Laxmisha, 24, a resident of Shishila. All of them hail from Belthangady taluk.

Police said that the victim's father had filed a case of abduction and during investigation it was found that all the accused befriended the girl after securing her mobile phone number and then sexually assaulted.

The police clarified that there was no gang rape and that the sexual assaults took place on different occasions.

Now a days it has become fashion for the girls to have boy friend and they feel proud if they have more than one bf.   In case a girl has no BF, she will be treated as untouchable.   In this case both the girl and her parents are also responsible for this.    this girl might have enjoyed the sex and hence did not inform her parents.

Chamaranagara, Mar 29: As many as 595 Tamil Nadu-based fishermen, who were working in Mangaluru, crossed the Karnataka border and reached their state via Chamarajanagar on Saturday.

Police said following the lockdown, the fishermen had left Mangaluru in more than 20 vehicles. The fishermen crossed the Karnataka border through Punajur check-post. However, the vehicles returned after dropping them near Hasanur check-post in Tamil Nadu.

As the fishermen had no proper documents, they were stopped by Tamil Nadu Police. However, the police allowed them after screening. The Tamil Nadu government arranged vehicles to ferry them, said a police officer.

Bengaluru, Apr 10: The Karnataka Education Board on Friday further postponed the annual examination for SSLC to May due to extension of lockdown to arrest spread of coronavirus which is spreading like wildfire in the state.

Minister for Primary and Higher Education S Suresh Kumar also announced that the PUC examination were also postponed to May.

"However, depending upon the situation we will announce the date in May and will inform the students one week earlier of the examination date to give time for preparation,"

Mangaluru, May 4: The district administration has set up seven check-posts to monitor those entering Dakshina Kannada from other districts and states amidst coronavirus crisis.

The check-posts are located at up seven check-posts at Talapady, Hejamady, Gundya, Jalsoor, Charmadi, Naravi and Kallugundi. 

According to Deputy Commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, all those who enter the district will be screened. Those who come from outside the district and state will be asked to remain in quarantine. 

As the relaxation is announced for 12 hours, the public should be cautious while venturing out of the house. Wearing a mask in public is mandatory in addition to maintaining social distance. 

Further, she said of the 24 cases reported in the district, only four had symptoms of breathlessness and others were asymptomatic. Of the nine active cases in the district, the condition of one patient is serious while two are likely to be discharged from hospital shortly, said the DC.
