Bengaluru, Jan 27: At a time when rumblings are being heard about former chief minister Siddaramaiah’s role in the recent trouble within the Congress that shook its ruling alliance with Janata Dal (Secular), his camp members on Sunday came into the open to bash HD Kumaraswamy-led government.

“It is seven months since the coalition government came to power, but development works have not yet taken off. Bengaluru roads have not been developed,” Congress MLA from Yeshwantpur S T Somashekhar, who took over as chairman of Bangalore Development Authority(BDA) recently, said, adding, “Had Siddaramaiah got another five-year term, we would have seen the real development.”

Somashekhar was speaking at the inauguration of Kanaka Community Hall built in Banashankari 6th stage off, NICE Road. The event, organised by the KarnatakaPradesh Kuruba Sangha, was marked by efforts by known Siddaramaiah's acolytes to reaffirm their loyalties.

Siddaramaiah, who was also present, said he would have completed all development works his government had taken up, if he had got another term as chief minister but his political rivals defeated him. It may be recalled that the former CM was defeated in Chamundeshwari by JD(S) candidate, but scraped through in Badami.

“They indulged in smear campaign and engineered my defeat, as they were jealous of me,” Siddaramaiah said, adding: “If I had got a chance to rule for another five years, I would have completed all developmental works.”

Speaking at the event, Eswarananda Swami, pontiff of Kanaka Peetha, said Siddaramaiah should be made chief minister again.

“This government has not released funds for schemes launched by Siddaramaiah. Efforts should be made to mount pressure on the present chief minister and make him release funds,” said the seer.

Social welfare minister C Puttaranga Shetty, whose name has come under cloud in a bribery case, said he still considers Siddaramaiah as the chief minister.

“Whatever you say, only Siddaramaiah is my chief minister. I cannot visualise anybody else in that position,” Shetty said.

Housing minister MTB Nagaraj went to the extent of describing Siddaramaiah as Rama and himself his ardent devotee Hanuman.

“If you split open my heart, you will find Siddaramaiah there. I chant his name as mantra,” said the minister.

Mangaluru, May 11: Hundreds of migrant labourers today gathered at a service bus stand in Mangaluru to return to Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.

They were working in different parts of Dakshina Kannada and remained stranded without a job after the announcement of lockdown.

Labourers said that they have not registered with Seva Sindhu portal to avail pass for travelling outside the state.

Though all the people who gathered wore a mask, the physical distancing norm was not followed.

Already three Shramik trains from Mangaluru had left for Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar with nearly 3,500 stranded labourers in the last two days.

The gathered labourers are anticipating that they would be allowed to travel to their destinations in the Shramik trains that will leave in the evening from Mangaluru.

The doctors and paramedical staff who have arrived the spot are checking the health of the labourers before allowing them to travel to the railway station.

The cost of a ticket to Uttar Pradesh is Rs 1,040 per person (which includes bus fare from service bus stand to railway station, food and water bottle).

Bengaluru, Mar 7: Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Friday said that the Upper Krishna Project (UKP) will be completed within the next three years.

Speaking in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said: "After discussing with the officials of the finance department, we have decided to allocate Rs 10,000 crore funds for the third phase of UKP. This project will be completed within a span of three years."

Yediyurappa also said that the government will hold talks for additional funds from the Central government.

The leader of Opposition, Siddaramaiah, interrupted and said that the CM has announced this just to gain the confidence of MLAs from north Karnataka.

"The government could have announced it in the budget itself or else the Chief Minister could have announced it at the time of discussion on the budget. Where are the funds with the government to complete the project? CM has announced this just to gain the confidence of MLAs who hail from north Karnataka," said Siddaramaiah.

Deputy Chief Minister Govinda Karajol while speaking to the media welcomed the Chief Minister's statement and said that the earlier government didn't allocate a single penny in the last seven years he added.

Bengaluru, Jun 17: Amid rising COVID cases in the past two weeks, the Karnataka government is planning to increase testing capacity to 25,000 samples a day, said a minister.

"Due to increase in cases in the last two weeks, the government is trying to scale up testing to 15,000 to 25,000 samples per day," said Medical Education Minister K. Sudhakar.

He said people living in crowded places, sanitation workers, street vendors, healthcare workers, police and other frontline staff would be extensively tested.

"It has also been decided to mandatorily test all those who have symptoms of Influenza Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infection (SARI)," he said.

Similarly, all people over 50 with ILI symptoms will be tested.

The health department will also randomly test samples in old containment zones to make sure that the infection is not recurring.

Currently, there are 72 Covid testing labs in the southern state, 41 government operated and 31 private labs.

However, for a few days, the number of Covid tests in the state have plummeted.

On Monday, the health department has tested only 5,362 samples across the state.

Likewise, on Tuesday, only 7,936 samples were tested, diverging from earlier weeks when around 10,000 cases were tested on an average.

In all, 4.57 lakh samples have been tested so far, of which 4.39 lakh have tested negative.
