Bengaluru, Mar 2: The ruling Congress-JD(S) alliance will win more than 20 out of total 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka during the coming Lok Sabha elections, state Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao claimed on Friday.

"Since we are going in coalition this time in Karnataka, in more than 20 constituencies, the Congress and JD(S) will win," Rao said.

Speaking to reporters after inducting former Molakalmuru BSR Congress MLA Thippeswamy into the party, the KPCC chief said his decision to join the party would help Congress win Chitradurga constituency with much higher margin this time.

According to him, there are good prospects for the Congress-JD(S)alliance this time with its decision to go for polls together. The party's performance was affected during assembly polls in the region due to various reasons, but local leaders were united now, Rao said.

Congress' B N Chandrappa is sitting MP from Chitradurga. Chitradurga is one of the constituencies, which JD(S) is keen on contesting this time.

Congress and JD(S) leaders are scheduled to discuss seat sharing for the Lok Sabha polls at the coalition coordination committee meeting on March 4.

In the first round of talks on seat sharing, held on February 25, the Congress insisted that winnability would be the criteria, while JD(S) maintained its stand to contest from 12 seats.

According to party sources, JD(S) is said to be keen on contesting from Mandya, Hassan, Bangalore North, Mysuru, Chikkaballapur, Tumakuru, Chitradurga, Raichur, Bidar, Bijapur, Uttara Kannada, and Shivamogga.

Congress is opposed to this, and has maintained that sharing of seats will be based on "merit".

According to party insiders, the grand old party is looking at limiting the JD(S) to six seats.

Also, there is pressure from within the Congress not to cede too many seats to JD(S), specially ten seats where party has sitting MPs, Chitradurga being one of them.

Bengaluru, Jun 30: In an attempt to tackle unemployment amidst covid-19 crisis, the Karnataka state government has launched a job portal connecting employers and job seekers.

The portal, 'Skill connect' ( https://skillconnect.kaushalkar.com/ ) provides region-wise and sector-wise job listings. An interested candidate can register on the portal and either apply for jobs or can also seek skill training.

As on Monday, the portal has 25 registered companies with over 2000 jobs available in various sectors.

The portal works more or less on similar lines as that of any private job portal, except that those posting jobs and candidates searching for employment will have to register with the Skill Development Department.

Launching the portal on Monday, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa hoped that the portal would provide an impetus to job creation, as well as the economic revival of the state.

Deputy Chief Minister Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan who is also the skill development Minister added, "All these years, there was no information and communication between job seekers and recruiters. This portal will solve that problem."

Also, until now, there hasn't been comprehensive information either on those seeking jobs or those looking for employees. The skill development efforts have not been in sync with the market. All these issues would be addressed by the portal, he said.

According to Karnataka Skill Development Authority Managing Director Ashwin Gowda, the portal has already seen a response with about 68 applicants in just a day.

Officials said even the organisations will have to register with the government while providing all documents concerned. The government aims to avoid any fake job advertisements through this. "We will also enable virtual interviews between the candidate and the employer," sources in the department told DH.

Recently, the government had also launched a portal exclusively for migrants who had returned to Karnataka from other places. This was meant to work as a skill registry.

However, the portal that was launched on Monday, went a step ahead by connecting both the prospective employers and employees, according to officials in the department.

Mangaluru, Feb 13: After pro-Kannada outfits called for a state-wide bandh today, the police are on high-alert to avoid any untoward incidents.

The dawn to dusk bandh was called demanding implementation of Sarojini Mahishi report which recommended certain percentage of jobs to Kannadigas in private & public sector companies.

There is no official holiday declared for schools and colleges. Besides, all government institutions and private establishments are open.

But, in some parts of Karnataka, autorickshaws and taxis, including Ola and Uber stayed off the roads.

Even though the bandh is unlikely to hit normal life in coastal Karnataka, stones were pelted on a Tirupati-Mangaluru bus in Farangipet.
