Bengaluru, Nov 6: Opposition Leader in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly and BJP State President B S Yeddyurappa today said that the party’s win in Shivamogga Lok Sabha was overwhelming, but the party will examine the defeats in its stronghold Ballari parliamentary seat.

Speaking to reporters here on Tuesday, he claimed that the Congresss-JD(S) Coalition Government has misused the official machinery and indulged in distribution of liquor and money.

‘’It is true that it would have been extremely satisfying had won Ballari Lok Sabha and Jamakhandi Assembly seats. But in Shivamogga too, we had expected a huge margin. However, our victory in there with BJP winning by a margin of over 52,000 votes is really impressive given the fact that we fought the might of the joint force of both the Congress and the JDS besides shameless misuse of official machinery,’’ Mr Yeddyurappa said.

The BJP leader said the party’s performance of polling 2.44 lakh votes in the traditional weak region of Mandya was heartening. This will enable us to strengthen the party further socially and geographically in the coming days.

‘’Congress and JDS are the past-masters in the art of con game and plotting. They have proved this in the just-concluded by-elections. The Undemocratic attitude of the JDS was further proved by in Ramanagara. We will exercise caution over the conspiracy of the Congress and JDS. We will not sit silent over this partial success of our party. We have lost only Ballari. We will introspect the results of Ballari and move ahead,’’ Mr Yeddyurappa warned.

He said BJP was confident of winning maximum seats, above 17 won in 2014 election. ‘’ We are confident that the 2019 Lok Sabha elections will be completely ours. The remarkable performance of the BJP government at the Centre under the dynamic and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will enable us to romp home to victory in maximum number of Lok Sabha seats. We are confident of winning 22 to 23 parliamentary seats’’.

Mr Yeddyurappa said he would undertake the tour of the entire State to strengthen the party cadre at the grass-root level. At the same time, the BJP will place before the people the lust for power of the coalition government. BJP has proved that it has the strength to face the combined force of the Congress and JDS.

‘’ We will prove it again in the coming days. The Karnataka High Court has castigated the coalition government on the issue of transfer of officials. This is sufficient to showcase the style and substance of governance of the Congress-JDS coalition regime,’’ he added in a statement issued here on Tuesday.

Bengaluru, Jan 21: Karnataka Chief Minister's political adviser MP Renukacharya has courted controversy yet again with his remarks targeting the Muslim community at a pro-CAA rally in Karnataka on Monday.

Addressing a rally in support of the new citizenship law, the BJP lawmaker accused Muslims of collecting weapons in mosques instead of praying. "There are few traitors who sit in a masjid and write fatwas. They collect weapons inside the mosque instead of praying. Is this why you want a Masjid," Renukacharya said on Monday.

Renukacharya said he won't hesitate to use the money allotted to Muslims for Hindus. "I will resort to such politics in my taluk where the money allotted for Muslims can be used for Hindus. I will put you [Muslims] in your place and show what politics is," said Renukacharya, who is a close aide of CM BS Yediyurappa.

This is not the first time a Karnataka BJP leader has made communal remarks targeting the minority community. Earlier, BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy had made controversial remarks at a pro-citizenship law protest in Ballari when he asked those opposing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act to think of the "consequences" if the majority community members hit the streets against them.

The MLA had said, "If you do any drama, then if 100 per cent people come, understand what will be your situation. Congress people are lying to you, believing them you are coming on streets. We are 80 per cent, you are 17 per cent, if we react, what will be your situation? Be careful," Reddy had said.

Following outrage, a case was filed against Somashekar Reddy for alleged provocative speech targeting those protesting against the amended citizenship law.

Bengaluru, Mar 2: Killing an Indian porcupine and inviting his TikTok followers to view it proved costly for a 25-year-old man from Kalaburagi. Forest department officials tracked him down and arrested him on Sunday morning.

Manjunath Biryalhissa, a resident of Jewargi taluk, was famous for his various TikTok videos and for lifting heavy stones in his village and neighbouring areas.

According to forest officials, on Friday, Manjunath and his friends caught a porcupine in Sindagi range, Vijayapura and stoned it to death. Later, they fried and cooked it. Manjunath then made an 18-second video, where he spoke about the porcupine hunt and slaughter, besides inviting his followers to like the video and join him in the feast.

The video was on TikTok and Facebook. Wildlife activists who found the video alerted forest department officials.

“Porcupine comes under schedule four of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Keeping this video as evidence we were able to trace him through his Facebook account, where he had shared details of his hometown,” said forest officials.

Media Release
July 31,2020

Mangaluru, July 31: Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has unveiled a campaign both on digital media and outdoor billboards on bringing awareness on the right usage of masks, social distancing and hand washing in the fight against COVID19. The campaign has received very good response and attention on social media and with the citizens of Mangaluru.

While the numbers of Covid-19 infected people were increasing and a vaccine would take some more time it was observed that norms of social distancing and other precautionary practices were thrown to the wind. Many people in Dakshina Kannada were found using masks inappropriately. Wearing a mask in a scientific way by covering both the nose and mouth is imperative to control droplets that spread the virus. We need to rise above our inconvenience to fight the virus.

Considering this the KCCI found an immediate need to bring awareness and constant reminder to people on the right usage of masks, social distancing, washing hands and other dos and don’ts to stay ahead of the virus and beat the pandemic.

A digital campaign and an outdoor advertisement campaign were planned by the chamber to remind and encourage people to follow best practices when interacting with others.

The theme of the Campaign was decided to be “Let’s Fight Back Together” Origin Designext a Creative Agency in Mangalore was roped in to do the creative for the campaign and a team from KCCI worked with the Agency to shape up the campaign with their inputs. In the meantime Indian Red Cross Society Dakshina Kannada and Rotary Mangaluru expressed their interest to support the Campaign.

Mangaluru based outdoor agencies like Jyothi Advertisers, Kalkura Advertisers and Gee Dee Advertisers agreed to provide outdoor space gratis to this community service campaign. Presented both in English and Kannada, the campaign has been creating waves on social media and on the street, a sign that it is being very well received by the populace of Mangalore city.

The creative of Half Covered or Half exposed where a model is shown with a mask that exposes the nose and KA-19 v/s COVID-19 (KA-19 being the Vehicle Registration Code for the District) have been particularly making a buzz in the community. All together 14 hoardings are currently on display with various Covid-19 awareness messages. Many business houses have shown interest to participate in this public awareness campaign.

The Chamber hopes this campaign would go a long way in the fight of the city against COVID-19 and play its role in putting the pandemic behind us. “Businesses and our economy has suffered enough, we need to work together to fight this virus, we need to rise above minor inconvenience and win this war,” says Isaac Vas the President to KCCI.
