Cong MLAs who are dependent on Muslim votes and hesitating to join BJP are Hijdas: Eshwarappa

Bengaluru, Sept 15: BJP veteran and Karnataka’s Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister K S Eshwarappa has raked up a fresh communal controversy by comparing the Opposition MLAs who seek Muslim votes to Hijdas (members of transgender community) .

Speaking at an event organised by Sri Rama Sene in the city, he lashed out at a few Congress MLAs who were hesitating to join the saffron party.

“A few MLAs are still dependent on Muslim votes. What happens if we don't get Muslim votes. Before we formed the government, I met a few Congress MLAs who wanted to join the BJP. But they were afraid of losing elections as 50,000 Muslims would not vote for them," he said, adding that such MLAs were exhibiting their Hijda quality.

He went on to add that patriots among Muslims voted for the BJP. "Whoever is pro-Pakistan and is an anti-national Muslim, did not vote for BJP," the minister said.

Eshwarappa has used such rhetoric against the Muslim community in the past. In 2018, he said that civilised Muslims were backing the BJP whereas the 'Muslim murderers' of Hindu activists were voters of the Congress.

Ahead of the Assembly polls in the same year, he said that the BJP won't give the ticket to Muslims in Karnataka "because you don't have faith in the BJP".

Mangaluru, Jul 2: Mangaluru BJP Corporator Manohar Shetty, who entered a manhole to clean a drain, said that he did it to avoid waterlogging ahead of monsoon as people were facing several problems for the past few years.

"In my ward, there is a rainwater drain at Kadri Kambla junction and for the past few years, there was a waterlogging problem due to trash water used to collect and vehicles used to find it difficult to pass in that area," Shetty said.

"Since there was a lot of trash it had to be cleared to avoid waterlogging. We changed our dresses, and then I along with my three party workers entered manhole and cleared the trash," he said.

The Mangaluru BJP Corporator further said that it was not a publicity stunt, and he cleaned the drain to solve the problem of people. "During elections, I had promised people to get the drain cleaned. Since monsoon was coming; something had to be done; we did not do it for publicity but to solve a problem," he said.

Davangere, Jul 19: A 9-year-old sniffer dog ran 12 km in the night to trace a murder accused and helped the police arrest him in Karnataka's Davangere rural area, an official said on Sunday.

"Doberman Pincher Tunga ran 12 km non-stop from the crime spot at Basavapattana in the city to a house at Kashipur in the rural where murder accused Chethan, 25, was hiding and helped us arrest him on July 17," Davangere Police Superintendent Hanumantha Rai said on phone.

Davangere is 260 km northwest of Bengaluru.

"Though Chethan allegedly shot dead his friend Chandra Nayak with a stolen service revolver on July 10 over sharing the booty (gold ornaments) of the theft they had committed recently with two others. We took female dog Tunga to the crime spot on July 16. She led the sleuths to the area where Chethan was hiding with two accomplices," Rai recalled.

While trained sniffer dogs normally run 4-5 km from a crime spot, Tunga could track the accused 12 km away.

When Tunga's handler (Head Constable Prakash) took her to the crime scene at 9.30 pm, she sniffed around and ran 12 km non-stop to Kashipur. She halted at a wine shop and went to a food joint later. Then she stopped at a house nearby at 12.30 am.

The prime accused (Chethan) was present in the house of his relative. He was arrested after he confessed to the theft and the murder.

The police are on the hunt to trace Chethan's two accomplices who fled from the house they were hiding in.

Karnataka Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Amar Kumar Pandey felicitated Tunga on July 17 at a function here for cracking the murder case with its exceptional sniffing traits.
