'Cong plans Operation Hasta to counter Operation Lotus in Karnataka’

Belagavi, May 13: Karnataka Minister for Forest Satish Jarkiholi, who is also District In-charge Minister, today ascertained that the Coalition partners Congress and JDS have full strength to save the government by launching 'Operation Hasta' (Operation Hand) to counter BJP's 'Operation Lotus' launched to woo the ruling party legislators in the State.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, he said that Opposition BJP and its leaders are continuously trying to pull down the government but in vain. "If they (BJP) continue the 'Operation Lotus' we are ready to launch Operation Hasta”, he added.

He said that BJP leaders are claiming that the party will win more than 300 seats in the General election, but “ BJP will not cross 250 seats, Prime Minster Narendra Modi has to seek support from other parties to form the government at the Centre after May 23."

Bengaluru, May 6: The second day of liquor sales in Karnataka on Tuesday after easing of lockdown curbs saw a nearly five-fold jump in earnings, with Rs 197 crore worth spirits being sold.

According to top Excise Department officials, 4.21 lakh cases of Indian-made liquor, comprising 36.37 lakh litres, worth Rs 182 crore and 7.02 lakh litres of beer in 0.90 lakh cases worth Rs 15 crore was sold on Tuesday.

On Monday, when sales resumed in the state, Rs 45 crore worth liquor was sold.

"We had never expected such a record sale. It's unprecedented," an Excise official who did not wish to be named said.

Liquor sales had resumed in Karnataka on Monday after a 41 day gap following the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mangaluru, Jul 17: An expert team from Bengaluru has arrived here on Friday to study the factors that have led to the sudden spurt in death due to Covid-19 in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka in the recent past.

The team has arrived following a request made by the district administration. The team comprising three experts has already held talks with specialist Doctors, according to official sources.

It will examine the reports on the treatment provided to the patients who have succumbed to the infection and will submit a report citing reasons for the increase in deaths, the sources added.

Mangaluru, Apr 18: Food kits were distributed to as many as 100 needy Beary poets, writers and artistes’ on behalf of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy at a simple ceremony held at the Academy office here on Friday.
 
The service initiative during the Lockdown was taken up as per the guidance of Minister for Kannada and Culture C T Ravi.
 
Dakshina Kannada District in-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary distributed the kits to the beneficiaries.
