Cong slams PM Modi for ‘mess of economy’, raises doubts over credit rating Agencies

New Delhi, Nov 25: The Congress on Friday held Prime Minister Narendra Modi "solely responsible" for creating a "mess" of the economy, after Standard & Poor's kept its sovereign rating for the country unchanged.

Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said the government was taking shelter under these "dubious" certificates from rating agencies.

Rating agency Moody's had on last Friday raised India's sovereign rating from the lowest investment grade of Baa3 to Baa2 - the first upgrade in almost 14 years.

Sharma accused Modi of being solely responsible for creating a "mess" of the economy and charged him with being in "arrogant denial".

He said that a "sudden flurry" of certificates from credit rating agencies is the "only fall back" of a government which has derailed India's economy.

Sharma alleged that GDP has sharply fallen, jobs have been "destroyed" in millions and business have shut down.

The leader also further raised questions over the ratings agencies waking up when all the parameters of the Indian economy are "in the red".

"About 3.72 crore jobs have been lost in the MSME/unorganised sector. Investment rate has plunged by 7%, credit offtake falling to a 65-year low. This calls into question the very credibility of these rating agencies," he said on the micro-blogging site.

Declining to follow Moody's recent India rating upgrade, Standard & Poor's on Friday kept its sovereign rating for the country unchanged at the lowest investment grade of 'BBB- minus' citing high government debt and low income levels.

Lauding it, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that the rating is a reflection of the agency's appreciation of the steps taken by the government to keep the economy stable and ensure a high growth trajectory.

"The S&P had inferred that over the next two years, growth in India will remain strong and the country will maintain its sound external accounts position," Sitharaman
said.

Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi lauded it, saying "After Moody's, S&P gives Narendra Modi govt thumbs up, keeps India's outlook stable."

Petrol price hiked by 40 paise per litre, diesel by 45 paise

New Delhi, Jun 10: Petrol price on Wednesday was hiked by 40 paise per litre and diesel by 45 paise, the fourth straight daily increase in rates after oil PSUs ended an 82-day hiatus in rate revision. Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs 73.40 per litre from Rs 73, while diesel rates were increased to Rs 71.62 a litre from Rs 71.17, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary from state to state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or VAT.

This is the fourth daily increase in rates in a row since oil companies on Sunday restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day hiatus.

In four hikes, petrol price has gone up by Rs 2.14 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.23.

Petrol Hiked By 57 Paise Per Litre, Diesel By 59 Paise In 6th Increase In A Row

New Delhi, Jun 12: Petrol price on Friday was hiked by 57 paise per litre and diesel by 59 paise a litre as oil companies adjusted retail rates - the sixth straight day of increase in rates since oil firms ended an 82-day hiatus of rate revision.

Petrol price in Delhi was hiked to Rs 74.57 per litre from Rs 74, while diesel rates were increased to Rs 72.81 a litre from Rs 72.22, according to a price notification of state oil marketing companies.

Rates have been increased across the country and vary in each state depending on the incidence of local sales tax or value added tax.

This is the sixth consecutive daily increase in rates since oil companies on Sunday restarted revising prices in line with costs, after ending an 82-day hiatus.

In six hikes, petrol price has gone up by Rs 3.31 per litre and diesel by Rs 3.42.

Walking from Delhi to MP, man dies in Agra amid lockdown

Agra, Mar 29: A 39-year-old man, who had walked almost 200 kilometers from Delhi to reach his home in Morena in Madhya Pradesh, collapsed and died in Agra on Saturday.

The man, identified as Ranveer Singh, worked as home delivery boy for a private restaurant in the national capital.

According to police, the victim collapsed near Kailash turning of the national highway-2, after which a local hardware store owner Sanjay Gupta rushed to the victim.

Sikandra station house officer (SHO) Arvind Kumar, said, 'Gupta made the victim lie on a carpet and offered tea and biscuit. The victim complained about chest pain and also called his brother-in-law Arvind Singh over phone to share his health condition. At around 6.30 P.m, the victim passed away and local police was informed. "

Ranveer had left for his native village on Friday morning on foot. It is likely that exhaustion of 200-km walk might have caused chest pain.

The SHO said,"On the entire NH-2 stretch, UP policemen are present with food packets and water for such persons but Ranveer's death is unfortunate. "

After the death, policemen took the victim's body for post-mortem. The autopsy report is yet to be re eased.

According to information available, Ranveer was working in Delhi's Tughlakabad for the past three- years. He is survived by three children including two daughters. He belongs to a family of farmers and was the main bread winner for his family.

His family has been brought to Agra to take the body back to their village for the last rites.
