Congress can’t stop BJP in Karnataka; Muslims should support JD(S): HDK

Janata Dal (Secular) Karnataka president H D Kumaraswamy has claimed that Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party have been responsible for the divide between Muslims and Hindus in the state in general and coastal districts in particular.

Speaking to media persons on Sunday, April 8 at Vijayapura, the former chief minister dubbed the two national parties as two faces of the same coin. “They are creating a gulf between Hindus and Muslims, in the coastal region especially, for electoral gains,” he said.

Kumaraswamy appealed to the Muslim community not to believe the Congress, whose leaders were saying that voting for the JD(S) was akin to supportlng the Congress. He said the latter was not capable of preventing BJP from coming to power. Muslims should vote for JD(S), he said. 

He alleged that the Siddaramaiah government had taken loans amounting to lakhs of crores of rupees, but had nothing to show for development.

The JD(S) leader said the government claims to have spent Rs 58,000 crore for irrigation, but water had not flowed to the farmers' fields.

He said the government had spent Rs 1,000 crore on advertisements, at Rs 7 crore a day, all about projects that had only received approval and whose works were under progress.

Belthangady, Jun 26: Thieves broke into a house at Kalmanja village in Belthangady taluk of Dakshina Kannada during the wee hours on Friday and decamped with cash and valuables worth Rs 13 lakhs after tying the inmates of an areca merchant's house.

Police said the stolen valuables include 40 sovereigns gold, one kg silver and cash of Rs 25,000. The robbery took place in the house of Achyut Bhat who is an areca merchant in Ujire.

The house inmates opened the door after hearing dogs barking. Immediately the criminals, wearing masks, barged into the house and threatening to kill tied them before escaping with the booty.

Bengaluru, Jul 27: Former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy on Monday took strong exception to the BJP's celebration over completing one year in office and alleged that people are suffering due to anti-people policies of the state government.

In a tweet on Monday, he said that since the last six months pension due to physically challenged, old age and Widow pensions were not paid. He urged the Government Issue emerge order to release pension amounts immediately. It was shameful on the part of the Government to keep the pension amount being kept pending.

This government has no eyes and ears and claiming only challenging years and transparent government, what examples required for them, he questioned.

Bengaluru, Apr 12: The Karnataka government is studying in-depth the consequences of the possible relaxation of lockdown norms after April 14 and plans to come out with a clear roadmap in a day or two, a key Minister said on Sunday.

Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar, who is in charge of all matters related to COVID-19, told PTI that the pros and cons of any decision that the Government intends to take is being looked at in detail.

"We are trying to understand how the situation would be of any action that we intend to take. We need to foresee the repercussions or results of our action. That we have to keep it in mind and make a decision. After-effects of the decisions we intend to take, that is more important, he said. You will have clarity (on the possible relaxation of lockdown norms) in a day or two. For everything (government decisions) we will give the reasoning for what action we would like to take; with the reasoning, we will give a decision," the Minister added.

Government sources said some relaxation in liquor sales, stopped during the lock-down period, is likely after the ongoing 21-day national clampdown ends on April 14. Twelve of the state's 30 districts remain free from the COVID-19 pandemic. Till Saturday, Karnataka reported 215 COVID-19 positive cases, including six deaths and 39 discharges.
