Congress ‘charge sheet’ to expose Kejriwal

February 16, 2014

Expose_KejriwalNew Delhi, Feb 16: Claiming to have supported the Arvind Kejriwal Government till the very end, the Congress on Saturday accused it of running away from responsibilities and not even making an effort to introduce the Jan Lokpal Bill in the Delhi Assembly. To expose the “doublespeak” of the Aam Aadmi Party Government, it has now also decided to “issue a charge sheet” against it.

Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Arvinder Singh said the betrayals of the AAP Government are so many that it would take the Congress a week to prepare the charge sheet. “It will be a really big book,” he quipped.

Mr. Singh charged that contrary to the claims the AAP was making, “the Jan Lokpal Bill was never introduced in the House and so there was no question of the Congress either supporting or opposing it”. He alleged that the AAP was only fooling people on the issue just the way it had been doing on other matters.

As for the vote, Mr. Singh said “it was on tabling the message of the Lieutenant-Governor to the Speaker”.

The Congress leader said even on Friday morning his party had told the Chief Minister that it would support him with the Bill, provided it was brought in constitutionally. “We also supported their Appropriation Bill which was listed at number one, ahead of the Jan Lokpal Bill at the fifth spot. This showed their sincerity towards the issue,” Mr. Singh said.

“We were also prepared to go with them to the Centre on the Jan Lokpal Bill. But they did not want to introduce it as they did not want it passed but only kept the issue alive for political gains,” Mr. Singh said.

He also accused the AAP leader of pretension in the House saying he had waved a book Swaraj, while calling it the “Constitution of India”.

The Congress chief said Mr. Kejriwal was aware of the rule that the Lieutenant-Governor’s approval was needed for financial Bills as he had himself got the salaries of two of his advisers approved from Mr. Najeeb Jung soon after taking over the charge. “But now when the financial implications of the Bill were much more, he wanted to bypass the L-G.”

Mr. Singh also alleged that since the subsidy for power and water had only been provided up to March-end, from April onwards the residents will have to pay higher bills. But, he said, rather than resolving these issues for the people, Mr. Kejriwal, who had claimed that people had through a referendum asked him to form a government, chose to run away from his responsibilities.

Senior MLA Mukesh Sharma said the popularity of the AAP was fast waning due to such frivolous attitude. “Yesterday no more than 700 people gathered at the AAP office despite their issuing SMSs to party workers and others hours earlier about the impending resignation.”

Former Delhi Minister Haroon Yusuf said the AAP leadership ran away as it could not fulfil its promises to nearly 4.5 lakh temporary workers about regularising their jobs, to the jhuggi dwellers of giving them permanent houses and of opening 500 new schools.

Mr. Yusuf said like former Prime Minister V.P. Singh, Mr. Kejriwal believed in calling all his opponents corrupt, but history will prove otherwise.

Ayodhya, Jul 23: All 32 accused in the Babri mosque demolition case should be invited to the "bhumi pujan" ceremony for the construction of the Ram temple here and honoured, a Hindutva outfit leader has said.

Hindu Dharma Sena president Santosh Dubey is one of the main accused in the case.

Dubey also insisted that the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust must also invite all the four Shankaracharyas to the ceremony planned on August 5.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also likely to attend the event.

"The office bearers of Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra must ensure that along with all 32 accused in the Babri mosque demolition case, the families of the kar sevaks who gave their lives in the Ram Temple movement must also be invited to the 'bhumi pujan' ceremony and must be honoured there," Dubey told PTI.

The top court verdict in favour of the Ram temple at the site would not have been possible had the Babri mosque not been demolished, he said.

"If the Trust does not invite the kar sevaks, it will a display of ego and arrogance. Without inviting the kar sevaks who have been accused in Babri mosque demolition and the families of the slain kar sevaks, the 'bhumi pujan' will remain incomplete," Dubey added.

A special CBI court in Lucknow is recording the statements of the 32 Babri demolition accused under section 313 of the CrPC, which enables them to plead their innocence, if they so want.

The court is conducting day-to-day hearings to complete the trial by August 31 as directed by the Supreme Court.

The mosque in Ayodhya was demolished on December 6, 1992 by 'kar sevaks' who claimed that an ancient Ram temple had stood on the same site. Former deputy prime minister L K Advani and BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi were leading the Ram temple movement at that time.

New Delhi, Feb 4: Miffed over the controversy created by its former Union minister and Uttara Kannada MP Anantkumar Hegde by his remarks against Mahatma Gandhi, the BJP, it was learnt, has issued a show-cause notice to him. The ruling party came under heavy criticism from the opposition over its MP’s remarks. The opposition has demanded a clarification from Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his party MP’s remarks.

Often in news for his controversial remarks, Hegde, sources said, could also be barred from attending the first parliamentary party meeting of the BJP of the budget session, scheduled on Tuesday. The party had taken a similar approach against its Bhopal MP Pragya Thakur during the last winter session for praising Mahatma Gandhi’s killer Nathuram Godse. Though the BJP leadership was earlier of the view that Hegde should tender an apology over his remarks but the party top brass, it was learnt, decided that it was not enough.

The Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack on the central government over the comments of BJP Lok Sabha MP Ananthkumar Hegde on Mahatma Gandhi. The party demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi come to Parliament and clarify his position on BJP leader’s “objectionable” remarks.

Congress party spokesman Anand Sharma said, “we can understand that why one after the other senior BJP leaders are insulting the memory of Mahatma Gandhi. They are disparaging the national movement, the freedom struggle because they are ideological descendents of those who were not only non-participants, but, actively opposed the freedom movement.” He further added, “Parliament is in session. We demand that the Prime Minister come to the House and make his position clear. As I have said, feeds that he is unhappy and angry, we are not concerned with that. In the very ideology, mindset, thinking and language of the BJP, there is violence.”

Asserting that the BJP MP’s statement was condemnable, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the leaders of the saffron party could afford to call the freedom movement a drama as they never fought for the country’s independence. “Such statements reveal their true mindset that they use Gandhi's name just for show and have no regard for him,” he said.
