Congress to depute Central leaders to assist cabinet rejig in Karnataka

Bengaluru, May 28: In its efforts to save the one-year-old JD(S)-Congress coalition government, which is facing severe crisis following setback it eceived in the Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka AICC president Rahul Gandhi has decided to depute a Central party team to assist the State Congress leaders to hammer out the solutions.

According to KPCC sources, the former Union minister and the leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Gulam Nabi Azad and the Party in-charge for Karnataka K C Venugopal, are arriving on Tuesday and join the Congress leaders, in working out strategies to stave off any threat to the stability of the Coalition government.

The Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which had registered a stellar performance in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections bagging as many as 25 seats out of the total number of 28, is making all efforts to wean away the dissident Congress and the JD(S) MLAs to its side and topple the Alliance government.

Mangaluru Smart City Limited mulls upgrading schools under SCM

Mangaluru, Feb 26: Mangaluru Smart City Limited (MSCL) Managing Director Mohammed Nazir on Wednesday said that 13 Schools in eight wards, here, will be upgraded under the Area Based Development (ABD) of the Smart City Mission (SCM).

Mr. Nazir, in a statement, said that the Schools selected include Government Higher Primary School Car Street, Bastigarden, Neereshwalya, Hoigebazar Lower Primary School, Government Practicing HS, Balmatta Primary School, Balmatta Secondary School, Bunder Higher Primary School (Urdu), Bunder Government High School (Urdu) and Bolara East Government Primary School.

These Smart Schools will have IT-enabled interactive teaching and learning tools, computer labs and open reading plazas.

Karnataka Minister CT Ravi tests positive for COVID-19

Bengaluru, Jul 13: Karnataka Minister CT Ravi has tested positive for COVID-19. However, his wife and staff members have tested negative.

"Yesterday, I along with my wife Pallavi and my staff members underwent COVID-19 test. Fortunately, my wife Pallavi and all my staff members are tested negative. Third umpire's result for me has confirmed that I'm COVID Positive. However, I'm feeling absolutely fine," Ravi tweeted.

"For now, I'll continue to work from here and undergo treatment. Very soon, I'll get cured and come back to work with you all," he added.
So far, Karnataka has reported 36,216 COVID-19 cases, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Coronavirus scare: Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu, two other districts put on high alert

Mangaluru, Feb 3: After neighbouring reported the second confirmed case of dreaded Coronavirus, the government of Karnataka today ordered high alert across border districts including Dakshina Kannada.

Apart from Dakshina Kannada, district administrations in Kodagu, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru that share boundary with Kerala have been put on high alert over the movement of people with suspected cases.

In a statement released on Monday, the Health and Family welfare department said that these districts have been directed to immediately report to the State Surveillance Unit (SSU) if they come across any suspected cases of people infected with Coronavirus.

Currently, about 51 people who returned from Coronavirus-affected regions have been identified and 46 are under home isolation across Karnataka.

So far, 44 samples have been sent to the National Institute of Virology, Pune for analysis and out of which 29 samples have revealed negative results. Yet, the state government has put in all possible measures to check the spread of the virus in any part of the state.
