Congress’ Hindutva is different from that of BJP; we don’t spread hatred: KPCC chief

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee chief Dr G Parameshwara has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of trying to divide society on the bases of religion and caste.

Addressing a Congress workers’ conference at Deodurga town in Raichur district recently, he said that Congress is the only party pushing for the development of all castes and religions.

Taking a dig at Amit Shah, BJP national president and Yogi Adityanath, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Parameshwara said that the leaders of the BJP are coming to the State often to spread their ideologies thereby using Hindutva as an election issue.

“We also follow the Hindutva. But ours is different from theirs. Their Hindutva is full of hatred. We don’t spread hatred. Hindu religion teaches us to love and respect people of all faiths,” he added.

 He said Mr. Shah was criticising the Congress government of corruption without any proof. Surprisingly, however, he had not asked BJP State president B.S. Yeddyurappa why he went to jail. “The people of Karnataka will not believe such baseless allegations against a pro-people government that had introduced programmes like Anna Bhagya, Krishi Bhagya, Ksheeradhare, Ksheera Bhagya, Manaswini, among others,” he said.

Coastal Karnataka was under communal tension after the BJP claimed an individual’s death as a communal clash death, he said.

Appealing to BJP leaders to pressurise the Union government to waive farm loans taken from nationalised banks, the Congress chief said that it was left to them to convince the Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard, if they were really concerned about farmers.

Bengaluru, Aug 7: Karnataka Revenue Minister R Ashoka has said that state was prepared to tackle COVID-19 and flood situation.

"Today I had a meeting with officials from disaster management, housing, Police, agriculture departments. The government is ready to tackle both the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the flood situation," he told news agency.

The minister said he had held a meeting with officials to take precautionary measures.
"I sanctioned Rs 20 crore to the Fire Department to purchase the equipment for rescue operations. I have already announced red alert in six districts. Tomorrow, I will visit Kodagu, Chikmagalur to assess rescue operations. NDRF reached have teams for rescue operations," he said.

"We are monitoring all dams. Last time we got more floods because of dams. I have instructed to all district collectors that 70 per cent water be filled in dams. Remaining water be sent to canals. We are expecting more rains in nine districts this year," he added.

Thiruvananthapuram, Feb 9: Kerala has sanctioned the setting up of 28 fast track courts for speedy trial in rape cases and other cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

State Social Justice and Women and Child Development Minister KK Shailaja said the state government has decided to set up POCSO courts to ensure that the culprits get the punishment they deserve. She said the decision has been taken in the wake of rising violence against women and children.

"The Union Law Ministry has recently sanctioned the opening of 28 POCSO fast track special courts in Kerala at the request of the state government. The project will be implemented jointly by the High Court, Law and Home Departments under the leadership of the Department of Women and Child Development," the Minister said.

The four courts are alloted in Thiruvananthapuram district, three in Thrissur and Malappuram districts, two each in Kollam, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Kozhikode and Kannur districts.

The Minister informed that POCSO courts are jointly established by the central and state governments and according to the High Court data, 12,234 POCSO and rape cases are pending in the state.
