Congress to launch nationwide protests from Nov 5 over economic slowdown, joblessness

New Delhi, Oct 24: To highlight the issues such as unemployment, unprecedented economic slowdown, rise in prices of essential commodities, collapse of the banking system and farmers distress, the Congress will launch nationwide protests from November 5.

Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal said that the protests will highlight the plight of the common people. The party will protest against the anti-people economic policies and decisions of the Narendra Modi-led NDA Government at the Centre.

The nationwide protests will be organised at district level and in all the state capitals from November 5 to 15 and will culminate with a massive rally against government in New Delhi, said Venugopal.

The decision was taken in the meeting headed by Congress President Sonia Gandhi with senior leaders on September 12 and 13.

The earlier schedule of the program was slated between October 15 and 25. The program had to be postponed because of the assembly elections.

Mangaluru, Aug 1: A teenage boy, who was critically injured in a road accident at Manchi village in Bantwal taluk, breathed his last at a private hospital in the city today.

The victim has been identified as Mohammad Unais (17), a resident of Bolanthoor village.  

The mishap occurred yesterday (July 31) at around 6 p.m. when Unais was riding a motorbike.

In his bid to overtake a speeding lorry near the Manchi mosque, the boy lost control over his motorbike, which first rammed into an auto-rickshaw and then collided with the same lorry. 

The impact was such that the boy was thrown onto the road. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Mangaluru. 

He breathed his last early today without responding to any treatment. 

A case has been registered at jurisdictional Melkar Traffic Police Station and investigations are on.

Bengaluru, May 19: Karnataka on Tuesday recorded the highest single-day rise in the COVID-19 cases in the state as a whooping 149 people tested positive for the virus. With the spike in new cases, the overall tally has risen to 1,395.

This is for the first time the state recorded 100 plus cases in a single day. So far, 40 people have also succumbed to the virus including three deaths today. 

The new deaths consist of a 61-year-old male patient, a resident of Ballari; a 65-year-old male patient, a resident of Vijayapura; and a 54-year-old male patient from Bengaluru.

Among the new cases, a maximum of 71 are reported from Mandya, followed by 22 in Davanagere, 10 in Shivamogga, 13 in Kalaburgi, six in Bengaluru Urban, four each in Udupi and Uttara Kannada, five in Chikkamagaluru, three in Hassan and one each in Yadagiri, Chitradurga, Vijayapura, Gadag.

Most of the new cases are of the people who traveled to Mumbai in Maharashtra, Solapur, Ahmedabad, and Kerala.

The remaining are those who came in contact with the people who had tested positive earlier.

At present, 811 people are actively taking treatment, while 543 have been discharged after recovery.

Mangaluru, Jul 2: A middle aged man who was battling health issues due to kidney-related ailments, breathed his last at a private hospital.

He was tested positive for coronavirus.

The deceased was a 49-year-old resident of Kalladka in Bantwal.

According to sources, the man, was getting treated for tuberculosis and liver-related ailments, he was at home since 20 days.

On June 27 he was admitted to the private hospital in the city due to kidney related ailment.

With this, the total number of death of covid patients in the district reached to 18.
