Congress never blamed BJP, RSS for Gauri killing

New Delhi, Sep 10: Days after Rahul Gandhi’s jibe at saffron outfits over Gauri Lankesh’s murder invited wrath, Congress leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjuna Kharge on Saturday came up with a nuanced view. He said his party never held the BJP or RSS responsible for the killing. But he insisted that “an ideological conflict” was the reason for eliminating journalists like Lankesh.

“We have never said RSS or BJP is behind the case. At the same time, an ideological conflict exists and possibly, people are being killed due to that,” Kharge said. 

Kharge said he had spoken to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy and pushed for a speedy probe to put the culprits behind the bars.

“Everyone should work unitedly to restore law and order. The culprits should be taught a lesson,” he said.

Bengaluru, Jul 29: Schools will remain closed and are expected to be opened in the month of August or September in the view of rising COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, said S Suresh Kumar, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education and Sakala of Karnataka on Tuesday.

Speaking on the issue, Kumar said, "Schools would not open for the time being. The children will be taught through media."

"The state is also working on the new schemes to improve the learning process for the students," he added.

As many as 5,536 new COVID-19 cases and 102 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.

The total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1,07,001 including 64,434 active cases, 40,504 discharges and 2,055 deaths.

Udupi, Apr 21:  Four walk-in sample collection units for COVID-19 test has been installed in the district, sources said on Monday.

The units have been installed at Udupi’s T M A Pai Hospital and district hospital and at Kundapura and Karkala taluk hospitals by Indian Medical Association, Udupi Branch along with Rotary Club and Red Cross Society.

Udupi district was declared COVID-19-free after all three COVID-19 positive patients were discharged after recovery and were now in home quarantine, the sources added.

Bengaluru, Apr 1: After fake sanitisers and masks, Central Crime Branch (CCB) police have busted another racket and seized fake thermometers worth Rs 8 lakh, it said in a statement on Wednesday.

Based on credible information, police conducted the raid on Prajval Surgical and Scientific store located on the first floor of a commercial building in the first block, Rajajinagar. They arrested store manager Keshavan N, 32, a resident of Kurubarahalli.

The police have seized 70 fake infrared forehead thermometers and 60 batteries used in these thermometers. They were worth around Rs 8 lakh as per the price they charged customers for each thermometer.
