Mangaluru, Feb 3: Denying reports that the Congress is losing in the coalition set-up, Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president Dinesh Gundu Rao on Sunday said the JD(S)-led coalition government had indeed helped the Congress consolidate votes and win the last few elections.
Speaking with reporters, Mr. Rao said the two parties have come together to keep the BJP away and provide a secular government. He added that the government was doing good work and efforts by the BJP to dislodge it had failed.
Asked about reports of Congress workers in Mandya asking the JD(S) to give Mandya Parliamentary seat to Sumalatha Ambareesh, Mr. Rao said this was too premature as the seat sharing exercise in Karnataka was yet to be finalised. On the way the Congress will decide on fielding candidates in the coming Lok Sabha elections in constituencies where both Congress and JD(S) are strong, Mr. Rao said, all will depend on the winnability of the candidates. “We will field those who have good chances of winning the seat,” he said, and cited the example of Congress supporting JD(S)’s Madhu Bangarappa for Shivamogga in the 2018 Assembly elections.
