New Delhi, Aug 2: The Opposition Congress led by its party president Sonia Gandhi staged a walkout in the Lok Sabha today protesting Income Tax raids against what it said was targetted at Gujarat legislators in Karnataka.
Congress floor leader Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that the government is trying to create a situation wherein the democratic values have come under severe attack.
"This is vendetta politics and witch-hunting," he alleged amid slogan shouting by several of his colleagues including the likes of Gaurav Gogoi, K Suresh, K C Venugopal and Abhijit Mukherjee.
Amid the din during Zero Hour, he demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley should assure the House that such "vendetta politics" would end.
The issue figured earlier in the day during Zero Hour when the agitating Congress Members created an uproar accusing the government of using Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate to harass Congress MLAs and ministers in order to defeat its candidate (Ahmed Patel) in the Gujarat Rajya Sabha polls.
