Congress unfazed by Siddaramaiah's broadside against Sangh Parivar

New Delhi, Jan 12: The Congress on Thursday was unfazed over the controversy created by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's remarks likening the Bajrang Dal and the RSS activists to terrorists.

"Siddaramaiah is the chief minister of a state, he has intelligence inputs and information that is not available with us. You can seek clarification from him," Congress spokesperson Tom Vadakkan told reporters here, when asked to comment on Siddaramaiah's remarks. He described BJP president Amit Shah's remarks terming the Karnataka government "anti-Hindu" as strange. "People of Karnataka will decide whether elections can be won by making such statements," he said.

'Solid leader'

Earlier this week, Congress President Rahul Gandhi had expressed full confidence in the chief minister describing him as a "solid leader".

Addressing a rally in Chitradurga district on Wednesday, Shah charged the government with perpetrating atrocities against BJP and RSS workers, claiming 20 of them were killed in the state over the last three years.

Siddaramaiah had on Wednesday said that the BJP, RSS and the Bajrang Dal had terrorists in their organisations, a charge rubbished by the BJP.

Mr. Siddaramia is one of the best impartial Chief Minister.  Whatever he told is absolutely correct.  Keep it up Siddanna.

Mangaluru, July 28: A screenshot of a death threat message against IAS officer Sindhu B Rupesh, the deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada, is now going viral on social media.

The threat comes in the wake of the Deputy Commissioner’s warning against attack on cattle traders by anti-social elements ahead of Eid al-Adha. 

It is learnt that a discussion was held about DC’s warning in a pro-Hindutva WhatsApp group. The death threat was issued in the same group in Tulu language. 

A police officer said that if the deputy commissioner doesn’t lodge a complaint, the police will file a suo motu case in this regard.

Bengaluru, May 13: Gym and hotels, which had remained closed due to lockdown to combat spread of Coronavirus, would be allowed to function from May 17, Karnataka Minister for Tourism C T Ravi said on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media, after a meeting with Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa here he said that the Chief Minister has agreed to give permission to gym, hotels and golf clubs to function and as they have assured to maintain social distance and follow other guidelines of the lockdown.

Mr Ravi, who is also Minister for Youth Empowerment and Sports, further said that reopening of hotel industry would help in attracting tourists. Opening of gym and fitness centre was important for sports persons and regular exercisers.

Bengaluru, Jan 23: Expressing shock over the blast which left him and his supporters injured yesterday, Shantinagar MLA NA Haris today said that the incident cannot be brushed aside as a firecracker blast and appealed to the state government to inquire into the incident.

Recovering from the injuries sustained on his leg, Haris was discharged from St Philomena's Hospital on Thursday afternoon. 

Interacting with mediapersons outside his residence in Shantinagar, Haris said, “It wasn’t a cracker but a ball-like object that was hurled at me. Since my childhood, I have been seeing crackers and the object that was thrown at me was certainly not a cracker. It had splinters and hard objects.”

He said, “I have been representing the constituency for over 12-years and had no rivalry with anyone. Barring political ideology during elections, all the leaders in our constituency have been cooperative with each other. Yet, we do not know what the intention was or who was behind the incident.”

Revealing that home minister Basavaraj Bommai had called him to enquire about his condition at the hospital Haris said, “I have also briefed the home minister and explained to him what exactly happened. I have full faith in the police and will cooperate with the police during the investigation.” Haris said that doctors have advised him three to four-days of rest.
