Congress villain in Mahadayi dispute, says Javadekar

Bengaluru, Dec 26: The blame game between the Congress and the BJP on the Mahadayi issue continued on Monday with the latter accusing the state government of being the "culprit and villain" in the resolution of the dispute.

Union Minister and BJP leader Prakash Javadekar said: "The dispute remains unresolved and Congress is the main culprit and villain. It was the Atal Behari Vajpayee government at the Centre in 2001 which gave in-principle approval for the project. Canal work started when B S Yeddyurappa was the chief minister and K S Eshwarappa, the irrigation minister. What has the Siddaramaiah government achieved during the last four years ?" he sought to know.

Javadekar said the ruling Congress, instead of appreciating the move of Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar expressing his willingness to resolve the issue, was making uncharitable remarks against the BJP. Javadekar, however, did not reply to a query on when Karnataka will get Mahadayi waters.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee president G Parameshwara said Parrikar writing to (BJP president) Yeddyurappa on the issue was not according to law. "He should have written to Karnataka chief minister or the chief secretary. Writing to the BJP president was a political gimmick to woo the people of North Karnataka ahead of the polls. The people has seen through BJP's game plan," he said.

Bengaluru, Aug 6: No private hospital in Karnataka can turn away a patient without attending to him or her, irrespective of the Coronavirus status, an official has said.

"Private medical establishments shall not deny treatment and admission to any patient approaching the establishment irrespective of the fact that such patient may or may not be suffering from Covid-19," an official from the state Health and Family Welfare Department said on Wednesday.

Likewise, no private hospital can insist on a patient for a Covid-19 test report, said the official invoking the Disaster Management Act.

"The establishments also cannot insist for Covid test report," he said, directing all private hospitals to strictly abide by their responsibilities.

According to the department, it is the duty of every private hospital to provide first aid and take lifesaving steps when any patient approaches it.

"It is the duty of every private medical establishment to provide first aid and take lifesaving measures to stabilise the patient," he said.

The department also invoked statutes from Karnataka Medical Establishments Act 2017, under sections 11 and 11 (A) to drive home the message.

The directives assume significance at a time when several cases of private hospitals denying admissions and fleecing patients across the state have emerged.

"It has been noticed that some of the private hospitals are refusing treatment and admission to emergency patients, causing distress and this has resulted in complications, leading to death in certain cases," said the official.

The district authorities have been directed to take action on the erring hospitals as the department reiterated the responsibilities of private medical establishments.

Bengaluru, May 12: About 101 labourers bound for Rajasthan from Bengaluru in a goods truck were detained near a border Checkpost at Hirebagewadi village in Belagavi taluk on the Pune-Bengaluru national highway and have been sent into institutional quarantine on Tuesday.

Police said that the Labourers comprising of men, women and children had been travelling towards Rajasthan in a goods truck without permission from Karnataka and even from their home State Rajasthan.

In the morning hours, police and other department personnel manning the check post near...check post near Hirebagewadi detained them.

Bengaluru, Apr 16: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Dr Ashwath Narayan today said that if former chief minister HD Kumaraswamy, being a law-abiding citizen, does not follow guidelines then action will be taken against him.

The Deputy CM made this comment when he was asked about Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil's marriage, which has been fixed on April 17 at a farmhouse near Bidadi in Ramnagar.

Narayan said: "Any violation of the guidelines will not be tolerated. We will ask the concerned authority to film the entire event and document it."

He said that so far Kumaraswamy has made public statements that guidelines will be followed.

"HD Kumaraswamy is a people's representative. He has been in public life for a long time. He should abide by the guidelines," Narayan said.

"Since he has been in a responsible position for a long time and he was the Chief Minister, guidelines must be followed in his son's marriage as per the rules amid COVID-19 scare.

After the marriage, there must not be any excuses. He cannot say that people came without an invitation," the Deputy Chief Minister added.

Kumaraswamy clarified that only his family members will attend the marriage and that there will be around 60 to 70 people.

"All guidelines will be followed as per the central government directives," he said.
