Cops bust fake currency racket, nab 4

Jaipur, Nov 20: Ahead of festive season, the crime branch of Jaipur police commissionerate on Tuesday busted a racket involved in circulation of counterfeit currency notes. Acting on a tip off by crime branch, the Amber police in the city have arrested four persons, including three from Malda (West Bengal) and seized Rs 2,97,500. A team of Jaipur police is camping in Malda to arrest another member of counterfeit currency notes gang.

Addressing a press conference, commissioner of police Sanjay Agarwal said that crime branch had some inputs that a haul of counterfeit currency notes has arrived in Jaipur and it was to be circulated in the city ahead of festive season.

"Our team kept a vigil on a suspect Khemraj (26), a native of Jaipur. Later, it was found that he was talking to two strangers on counterfeit notes. Thus, a team of Amber police first apprehended the threesome and later arrested them," Agarwal said.

The other two persons were identified as Anarul Sheikh (40) and Aalam Momin(27), both natives of Malda. "A joint team will interrogate the accused to know more about their nexus and will also find out how much counterfeit notes they managed to circulate in the market," the commissioner added. Police said the quality of counterfeit note is good as it is hard for a layman to differentiate between the original and fake one.

"During interrogation, the two persons from Malda said that they have received the notes from one Naushad and Quyyum Sheikh, both natives of Malda. Our team is already camping in Malda and have apprehended some persons. We are likely to arrest more persons who were part of this gang," Agarwal said.

In the evening, Jaipur police succeeded in arresting Naushad in Malda with the help of local police.

"Our team managed to arrest Naushad and are coordinating with the local police in west Bengal to arrest the other accused Quyyum," said Anshuman Bhomia, deputy commissioner of police (North).Box -

Accused Khemraj was arrested by Brahmpuri police in 2010 and was convicted in the case with an imprisonment of four years. After completing his sentence, he again started the malpractice

The smugglers used to give triple of the fake currency notes in lieu of an amount. Police said if Rs 1 lakh as cash are given to the smugglers, they will in return give counterfeit currency notes of Rs 3 lakh

Chandigarh, Jan 15: A man, who has killed two women over infidelity over the last 10 years was arrested from a news channel studio in Chandigarh when he confessed to these crimes during a live programme, police said.

In the television programme on News18, the 31-year-old accused, Maninder Singh, who is a cab driver, confessed killing his live-in partner, a 27-year-old nurse Sarabjit Kaur at a Chandigarh hotel on New Year's Eve.

Singh, a former murder convict and currently out on bail, also confessed about his crime committed in Karnal in 2010.

"I killed her (Sarabjit Kaur) because she was having an affair with her sister-in-law's brother," Maninder told the news channel.

Confessing his previous crime, Maninder said he had killed Renu in Karnal. "She was also having an affair with a man from Uttar Pradesh," he said.

Singh was arrested while the programme was still on air as police rushed into the studio.

Haryana Police had arrested him for killing the woman in 2010. He was convicted by a trial court, but he later got bail from the Punjab and Haryana High Court.

Kozhikode, Jun 26: A man, who had returned from Bahrain on Thursday and has been under quarantine at his house in Villyapallai near here, has been stabbed on his arm by an unidentified person.

Police sources said the assailant, with a masked face, had ransacked the man's house by break-opening the door at midnight lat night and stabbed Lijeesh on his arm and fled from the scene.

The nearby residents took Lijeesh to a nearby hospital and was put back on quarantine.

Bareilly, May 31: The Bareilly couple who had made headlines in July last year when they eloped and apprehended a threat to their life from the girl's father who is a BJP MLA in UP, is back in the news.

Ajitesh, now son-in-law of BJP MLA Rajesh Mishra, and his friend were arrested on Saturday for allegedly thrashing a youth and snatching his cell phone after a minor road mishap in Prem Nagar area of Bareilly district.

Ajitesh is married to Sakshi, daughter of the MLA and the couple had eloped last year and got married.

According to police, the youth was on his way home after buying medicines for his friend's father when his bike hit Ajitesh's SUV. Ajitesh and his friend thrashed the youth and snatched his cell phone.

Police said Ajitesh and his friend Vaibhav Gangwar were booked under IPC section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and other relevant sections.

Both have been sent to jail.

The complainant Deepanshu Maheshwari said, "When I overtook Ajitesh's car, he chased and waylaid me in the middle of the road. Thereafter, he and his friend thrashed me and snatched my phone. SHO Balbir Singh and his team rescued me."

The SHO told reporters, "We checked CCTV footage and spoke to witnesses only to find that Ajitesh and his friend had thrashed the youth. A case was registered under relevant sections and both were sent to jail after being produced before a magistrate on Saturday. The youth has been admitted to a hospital and his condition is stable."

The BJP MLA, incidentally, had snapped all his ties with his daughter Sakshi after she eloped and married Ajitesh.
