New Delhi, Nov 6: Jawaharlal Nehru University students' protest against the government over missing student Najeeb Ahmed turned violent on Sunday near India Gate when police took the protestors back to their buses in order to prevent any clash. Shocking visuals, which appeared all over social media, showed Najeeb's mother Fatima Nafees being dragged by Delhi Police personnel from the protest site.

Najeeb Ahmed, a first-year MSc student at the School of Biotechnology in JNU reportedly went missing on October 15 after allegedly being beaten up by a mob of 20 students comprising ABVP members, who had gone campaigning to his room for hostel elections. Fatima has been camping in Delhi since last month, after coming from Badaun in Uttar Pradesh following a frantic phone call from her son on the evening of October 14.

"The shameless Delhi Police, which failed to find Najeeb for the last 23 days, have misbehaved with Najeeb's mother. She was beaten up and dragged into the police van. His sister is also detained," said Satarupa Chakraborty, general secretary of Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union, slamming Sunday's police intervention in a peaceful rally.

According to media reports, members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad allegedly entered into the protest area and indulged in a scuffle with JNU protestors. This invoked the police to stop the protest and take the students inside the buses. In the process, Najeeb's mother got injured.

Defended the action on protestors, the Delhi Police said no permission had been granted for the protest and that Section 144 was imposed in the India Gate area because of Chhat Puja.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, however, strongly marked his dissent against the police.

Speaking to the media, he urged the Delhi police to not convert the city into a police state, and instead put its resources into finding Najeeb.

Earlier in the day, Kejriwal met President Pranab Mukherjee to seek his intervention into the matter.

Speaking to the media after meeting with the President, Kejriwal pinned the blame on Delhi Police, accusing them of refusing to take action after coming under political pressure.

The chief minister further said that President Mukherjee had assured him of seeking a report both from the JNU administration and the Delhi Police as well.

New Delhi, Feb 29: The arsonists, who were allegedly hired by the pro-CAA politicians in Delhi to unleash violence against Muslims, did not even spare the residence of Border Security Force personnel Mohammed Anees.

While the jawan, who has spent three years guarding the borders along Jammu and Kashmir, had hoped that his job profile mentioned on the nameplate hung outside their two-storey house would discourage the vandals, he was proved wrong.

The nameplate on house number 76 in Khas Khajuri Gali clearly mentioned it was the property of a security force personnel who protects India’s borders from foreign invasions. Yet, it was burned down on the afternoon of February 25.

First, the ruthless goons set the vehicles parked outside the jawan’s house on fire, then they torched his home. Stones were also pelted at his house amid slogans of “idhar aa Pakistani, tujhe naagarikta dete hai” (Come here Pakistani, get your citizenship).

Apart from Anees, his father Mohammed Moonis, 55, uncle Mohd Ahmed, 59, and 18-year-old cousin Niha Parveen were in the house. Sensing what was about to go down next, they all escaped from the house, and were helped by paramilitary troops.

Charred remains of the house now stand where the house was till three days ago. In the two lanes of Khajuri Khas near Anees’s house, 35 houses were set on fire.

The loss suffered by the BSF soldier’s family was perhaps greater as they had kept all their life’s savings inside: two weddings in the family were to take place in the next three months.

Niha Parveen was to get married in April and Anees himself was to get married the following month. “All the things we collected all our life, jewellery – two gold necklaces, silver jewellery, it is all gone,” the family said.

“We used to buy jewellery on instalments… used to give money every month and collected this jewellery,” they said. Rs 3 lakh in cash for the wedding arrangements also got burnt along with other valuables and all their belongings.

Khajuri Khas is a Hindu-majority area, but Anees’s family says no neighbour of theirs was involved in the attack. “People came from outside.” Instead, their Hindu neighbours were asking the rioters to leave. They requested them to leave and helped douse the vehicles on fire.

Tumakuru, Jan 8: RSS leader Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat stoked controversy on Wednesday by stating that 'Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is full of traitors'.

He was addressing the media after taking part in a pro-CAA rally organised by National Citizens Forum near the office of the deputy commissioner of the district here.

Bhat said, “JNU is full of traitors. Congress and communist parties have been generating anti-nationals there. But there is no need to close the university down. Modi government will handle it.”

“Nationalism should be infused among the students there through love and trust. They should be made to realize what the truth is,” he said.

Unfortunate, still he has poor followers to believe him.

He is safe at home and sacrifiers are poor boys who blindly believe and obey him.

This guy is sick and irriversible.

God will reward him so that his followers believe his exploiting orders.

Bengaluru, Jan 3: The Karnataka high court on Thursday issued notices to the Railway Board and the South Western Railways on a petition seeking review of superfast surcharge being levied on passengers in Malgudi Express train.

Petitioner and Mysurubased advocate Mohammed Dastagir, in a public interest litigation claimed that as per the circular issued by the Railway Board on December 10, 2006, Malgudi Express — which runs from Mysuru to Yelehanka — is not designated as a superfast train and despite the same, the authorities are illegally collecting additional charges known as supplementary charges ranging from Rs 15 to Rs 75 from passengers.

A division bench headed by Chief Justice Abhay Shreeniwas Oka posted the petition to second week of February.
