
Mangalore, June 5: To mark the World No Tobacco Day, a public dental awareness programme was organized jointly by AJ Institute of Dental Sciences and Indian Dental Association, DK, at the Police Commissioner's office in Mangalore on Tuesday.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, Seemanth Kumar Singh, Mangalore City Police Commissioner, advised fellow police personnel to get them informed about the hazards of tobacco and smoking and pass on the message to others.
Students of AJ Institute of Dental Sciences presented a street play on the ill-effects of smoking and tobacco.
Dr. Roshan Shetty and Dr. Pooja delivered talks on ill-effects of tobacco and tobacco cessation.
A dental checkup for police personnel was also conducted on the occasion.
Suresh Chandra of Department of Community Dentistry, AJ institute of Dental Sciences, Mangalore, said that more than 5 lakh people die every year due to tobacco related diseases. It is a major cause of oral cancer, he added.
