Mangaluru, Jan 30: The Mangaluru city police have registered a suo motu case against Jagadish Shenava, Dakshina Kannada district unit president of Vishwa Hindu Parishad Dakshina for attempting to create enmity between communities and abetting commission of crime.
Mangaluru North (Bunder) police have registered cases under Sections 116 and 153A of the Indian Penal Code against Mr. Shenava, who allegedly delivered the speech at a book release here on Sunday.
He had said that there was no regret over the murder of Ahmed Bashir though he was an innocent. He had also urged Hindus to support those who killed the innocent Muslim man. Bashir was attacked on January 3 by a gang of saffron extremists. Police have arrested around 10 persons in connection with the case so far.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Central) Uday M. Nayak said that the case was registered on Monday. The accused has not been arrested and investigation is under progress, he said.
