Cops suicide spree continues; transfer drives head constable to kill self

KarnatakaBengaluru, Jul 22: The spate of suicides involving police staff has continued in Karnataka with a constable allegedly taking his life this morning in Kalaburgi owing to issues relating to his transfer.

Annarao Saibanna Gamaga (48), a head constable with the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), was found hanging from the ceiling at his staff quarters in Sultanpur in Kalaburgi. Though he was taken to a nearby hospital, he did not survive.

According to his relatives, Annarao, who was working for the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), was transferred to the IRB a year ago. Owing to poor health, he requested to be transferred back to the KSRP. However, it is alleged that his superiors demanded money to transfer him back to the KSRP. Annarao was reportedly under great stress and may have committed suicide because of the issue, his relatives alleged.

This is the fifth suicide case involving police staff in the last two weeks in Karnataka. The police have registered a case and probing the circumstances leading to Annarao's suicide.

Bengaluru, Jan 1: Karnatak Deputy Chief Minister Govind Karjol has said that the state government wrote to the Centre to fix the technical glitches in FASTag system.

"We have brought this issue to the notice of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari," he told reporters on Tuesday.

In response to the flood relief by the state government, Karjol said that the approximate cost of roads damaged in the floods was Rs 7000 crore and the government would take up the repair works soon.

Bengaluru, May 27: Mebina Michael, who contested in Pyate Hudgir Halli Life season 4, is killed in a road accident on Tuesday. The incident occurred on National Highway 75 at 4.30 pm in Devanahalli in Nagamangala taluk, Mandya district.

As per the reports, Mubiena along with two others were travelling to Somavarpet from Bengaluru. Their car collided with a tractor, which was taking a U-turn, they were immediately rushed to the Adichunchanagiri Medical College hospital.

Later, the injured were shifted to a private hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment and Mebina died on the way, while the two are are battling for lives with serious injuries. A case has been filed at Bellur police station.

Bengaluru Jul 29: There will be a centralised system in place in Karnataka to classify asymptomatic, symptomatic and mild symptomatic persons and recommend treatment based on the severity of the cases, said Medical Education Minister Dr K Sudhakar on Tuesday here.

"Various existing apps related to COVID-19 will be brought under one platform to get real-time information which will assist in strategising allocation of hospitals/beds to the needy. This will probably remove the delay in bed allocation and treatment which is being faced now. The patients will get all information in one phone call," Dr Sudhakar said.

Sudhakar spoke with a team of experts from the government and Infosys.

Referring to a company by name Step 1, which is providing such services in Delhi and Madhya Pradesh, the Minister said that a similar system will be implemented in the state as well.

"This company is having a team of doctors and nurses which is guiding the people whether they need hospital treatment or home isolation after they are tested positive for COVID-19. More than 70 per cent of the positive cases are being asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic and are advised to go for home isolation," the minister said.

"The load on the hospitals is reduced and severe cases can be administered proper treatment. Infosys co-ordinates with the government to provide technical support for this system," Dr Sudhakar added.

Earlier during the day, the minister held a video conference with the heads of private medical colleges to review COVID preparedness.
The government has already passed guidelines to allocate 50 per cent of hospital beds for COVID patients.
