Siddharthnagar, Sept 13: A man riding a motorcycle allegedly in an inebriated condition was assaulted by two policemen here during an inspection of vehicle documents, prompting their suspension by the department, officials said on Friday.

The incident took place on September 10, the day of Muharram, when the sub-inspector and the head constable concerned were on duty in Sakarpar area under Khesraha police station limits, the officials said.

They suspected Rinku Pandey, a local, was inebriated while a child also rode on his motorcycle and stopped him for inspection and asked for vehicle's papers which were not available, a senior official said.

Soon an altercation broke out and SI Virendra Mishra and head constable Mahendra Prasad started manhandling the man, kicked and punched him with the child witnessing the events along with some other passersby, as a purported video of the incident also circulated on social media.

Superintendent of Police, Siddharthnagar, Dharamveer Singh said the local police had got information over the phone that Pandey was engaged in a spat with a man at the roundabout.

"When the SI and HCP reached the spot, they found Pandey under the influence of alcohol and engaged in a duel. The cops then pushed him, threw punches and kicks at him. The way the policemen dealt with the situation was ugly, they were in uniform... It was an indecent display on part of the police department," Singh said.

Based on initial information of the act, the two policemen were shunted to the police lines on September 11 and suspended the next day after a preliminary inquiry, the SP said.

"A Circle Officer-level inquiry is also underway in the case whose report would be out by this evening and further action would be taken on the basis of this report and the policemen could even get dismissed from service," Singh added.

While there was no written complaint made in the case in first three days, Pandey, who was assaulted by the policemen, has now approached the police with a plea for action against his assaulters and the matter is being looked into accordingly, according to officials.

May 11: Two youths allegedly gang-raped a teen and then hacked to death her 11-year old brother, who had seen their act, in a bid to hide their crime, at a village in Uttar Pradesh's Etah district, about 300 kilometres from here.

Police sources said that two youths, resident of the same village, barged into the house of the teen, when she was alone, and allegedly gang-raped her.

The victim's minor brother suddenly came into the house and protested after he witnessed his sister being sexually assaulted, sources said. The youths allegedly strangled the minor with a towel.

The alleged culprits, who hailed from influential families, 'forced' the victim's parents to bury their son and warned them against approaching the cops.

The parents, however, gathered courage and met senior police officials in Etah on Sunday after a case was registered in this regard. Police said that the body of the minor would be exhumed and a postmortem examination would be conducted.

Panaji, Feb 23: A MiG-29K aircraft crashed off Goa during a routine training sortie on Sunday morning, the Indian Navy said in a statement.

"The pilot ejected safely and has been recovered. An enquiry into the incident has been ordered," the statement said.

On November 16, a MiG-29K trainer flight had crashed after a bird hit, soon after it took off the Dabolim International airport, which functions out of the Indian Navy base INS Hansa.

Both pilots had managed to safely eject themselves to safety after both the engines of their jet failed.

According to data tabled in the recent budget session of the Goa Assembly, every ten days, at least one aircraft landing or taking off at Goa's Dabolim international airport faces dangers involving birds or stray dogs near the runway.
