Cops thwart cattle smuggling bid; four arrested; animals rescued

Mangaluru, Aug 3: The police have arrested four persons after intercepting a lorry in which they were smuggling cattle to Kerala from Udupi yesterday.

The arrested cattle smugglers have been identified as Radhakrishna, a Keralite, Subhash Shetty and Sathish Kumar, both localites. The police have also arrested lorry driver Naimuddin, who also hails from Kerala.

The police rescued seven cows and six calves that were being transported for a slaughter house.

The operation was carried out by the senior officers of Mangaluru city police along with the sleuths of Kavoor and Panambur police station under the guidance of city police chief T R Suresh.

Mangaluru, Jan 23: The Muslim Central Committee of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi and Humanity Forum of Mangaluru today handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh to the aggrieved family of Naushin, who was killed in arbitrary police firing on December 19 in the city.

A team of philanthropists led by Muslim Central Committee chairman K S Mohammad Masood visited Shaheed Nausheen’s house at Kudroli and handed over the cheque. Several philanthropists have contributed to this humanitarian aid.

Corporator Shamsuddin Kudroli, S M Rasheed Haji, Mansoor Ahmed Azad, Ibrahim Kodichal, Haneef Haji, Asif Deals and Ashraf Kinara were present among others.

Bengaluru, Jul 28: As many as 5,536 new COVID-19 cases and 102 deaths were reported in Karnataka on Tuesday, according to the State Health Department.

With these new cases of coronavirus, the total number of positive cases in the state stands at 1,07,001 including 64,434 active cases, 40,504 discharges and 2,055 deaths.

India on Tuesday reported 47,704 more COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the country's count of coronavirus cases to 14,83,157, informed the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Out of the total cases, there are 4,96,988 active cases in the country while the number of patients cured/discharged and migrated stands at 9,52,744. With 654 deaths due to COVID-19 in the country reported in the last 24 hours, the death toll rises to 33,425.

Mangaluru, May 13: Coastal district of Dakshina Kannada today reported a fresh covid-19 positive case. According to sources, this case also linked to Manglauru’s First Neuro Hospital, which has emerged as the corona hub of coastal Karnataka.

Health and Family Welfare department in its today’s bulletin revealed that a 38-year-old woman from Darandabagilu near Someshwara in Mangaluru taluk of Dakshina Kannada was tested coronavirus positive.

It is said that the woman was in touch with P-507, an octogenarian, who was being treated for neurological issues at First Neuro Hospital.

With this the total number of coronavirus positive cases reported in Dakshina Kannada rose to 34. Among them only 26 are residents of Dakshina Kannada. Four are from Kasaragod, three from Udupi and one from Bhatkal.

Among 34, currently there only 17 active cases. The condition of two among them is said to be critical.
