Cop’s wife found dead in Uttara Kannada

Karwar, Dec 20: The wife of a police officer has allegedly committed suicide under mysterious circumstances in coastal Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district.

The deceased has been identified as Vijayalakshmi Hoogara (28), wife of the Haliyal police sub-inspector Mallappa S Hoogara. The two were married six years ago and have two sons.

The incident came to light when the PSI finished his night rounds and returned home on Wednesday morning.

Vijayalakshmi, who was found hanging from a ceiling fan, was shifted to a local government hospital and was declared dead on arrival.

MLC S L Ghotnekara, BJP MLA Sunil Hegde and Tahsildar Vidyadhara Gulagule visited the hospital.

Mangaluru, Jul 6: Two fresh deaths in last 24 hours have taken the total number of covid-19 deaths in Dakshina Kannada district to 24.

The deceased are a 52-year-old woman from Ullal and a 52-year-old man from Thokkottu.

The man was suffering from cardovascular disease and pneumonia, sources said.

The woman passed away in Wenlock hospital.

More details are awaited.

Mangaluru, May 9: Dakshina Kannada District Collector Sindhu B Roopesh on Friday held a meeting to discuss the precautionary measures to be taken to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and the current situation in the district.

The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament and Karnakata BJP unit chief Nalin Kumar Kateel, Minister-in-charge of Dakshina Kannada Kota Srinivasa Poojary, MLA Vedavas Kamath and District Medical Officer Dr Ramachandra Bauri among others were present there.

Top officials of the police department, labour department officials and other concerned persons were also present in the meeting.

Udupi, Apr 21:  Four walk-in sample collection units for COVID-19 test has been installed in the district, sources said on Monday.

The units have been installed at Udupi’s T M A Pai Hospital and district hospital and at Kundapura and Karkala taluk hospitals by Indian Medical Association, Udupi Branch along with Rotary Club and Red Cross Society.

Udupi district was declared COVID-19-free after all three COVID-19 positive patients were discharged after recovery and were now in home quarantine, the sources added.
