Corrupt '10% sarkar ruling Karnataka', says Modi

Bengaluru Feb 5: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lambasted the Congress government in the state on the issue of corruption, terming it a "10% sarkar" and vowed to make Karnataka "Congress mukth" (free of Congress) in the coming Assembly elections.

Addressing a large gathering to mark the conclusion of BJP's Navakarnataka Parivarthana Yatra at the sprawling Palace Grounds in Hindi, he also hit out at the government on the law and order front. "When the Centre is working towards ensuring ease of living, Karnataka is debating about 'ease of doing murders'. Those who oppose the incumbent government are being muzzled. It is a dangerous development in democracy," he stated and called upon people to give a fitting reply to this by throwing the government out in the elections.

Nothing happens without 10% cut. Taking commission has become the hallmark of the government. Builder and sand mafias are ruling the roost. Two of the Cabinet ministers were raided by the income tax department and a senior Congress leader is facing charges of owning disproportionate assets, he charged in his first, full-fledged public rally in poll-bound Karnataka.

People of Bengaluru recently witnessed how the government tried to swindle crores of rupees on the pretext of implementing the steel bridge project. The state government has scaled new heights in corruption, Modi said. Days for Congress-free Karnataka are not far. The state should be free of the party that is in favour of dynastic rule and corruption, he added.

The crowd, estimated at one lakh, erupted into an applause when Modi commenced his speech in Kannada and invoked noted personalities like Basavanna, Sangolli Rayanna, and Kempegowda. In the same breath, he said: "I have not seen such a crowd before...The whole country is seeing which direction the wind is blowing...The countdown for the Congress government has started...The Congress is standing at the exit gate."

Modi devoted much of his 52-minute speech patting his own back by explaining the "pro-people measures taken by his government and how the Siddaramaiah government has been lax in implementing them in the state". Besides, the Prime Minister promised to develop "next generation" infrastructure in the state, especially Bengaluru, by taking up the Metro and suburban rail projects and providing better education and healthcare facilities.

DK Shivakumar meets DGP, demands protection for MP Congress MLAs

Bengaluru, Mar 18: Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar on Wednesday met the Director-General of Police in Bengaluru and demanded police protection for Madhya Pradesh Congress MLAs and the removal of BJP workers from the hotel in Bengaluru, where the legislators are currently lodged.

"The (Madhya Pradesh) legislators have come here and have requested police protection, that is all. Let the police give them protection, our candidate (Digvijaya Singh) has come, let him meet the legislators. Why are BJP workers protecting them? We know that they are under threat and hence we need to vacate them (BJP workers)," Shivakumar told reporters here after the meeting.

"We will give protection to our men and that is why we are telling them they cannot stop us. They should be in a free and fair position. I have communicated to DGP that BJP needs to vacate," he added.

Earlier today, Congress' Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh and former chief minister Digvijaya Singh was placed under preventive arrest after he sat on a dharna near Ramada Hotel here, allegedly for not being allowed by police to meet the 21 Congress rebel MLAs lodged in a hotel.

"I am a Rajya Sabha candidate from Madhya Pradesh, voting is scheduled for March 26. My MLAs have been kept here, they want to speak to me, their phones have been snatched, the police is not letting me speak to them saying there is a security threat to MLAs," Singh told reporters.

Singh who sat on the dharna with a face mask on said: "We were expecting them to come back, but when we saw they're being held back, messages came from their families...I personally spoke to five MLAs, they said they're captive, phones snatched away, there is Police in front of every room. They're being followed 24/7," Singh said.

The development comes amid the political crisis in Madhya Pradesh after the exit of Jyotiraditya Scindia from the Congress party.

Scindia's departure was followed by 22 Congress MLAs resigning from the party as well as from the state legislative Assembly.

The resignation of these MLAs has left the Kamal Nath government below the majority mark.

Karnataka: People in Coast, Malnad urged to be cautious amid covid, rains

Bengaluru, Aug 6: With rains in several parts of Karnataka amid Covid-19 pandemic, state Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar on Thursday asked the people to maintain caution and contact the Health department helpline in case of any symptoms.

"There is heavy rain in several districts of the state's coastal, Malnad and north interior regions. People have to observe utmost caution during these rains amid corona infections. In case of any symptoms like fever, cough and cold immediately call the health department helpline 104," Sudhakar tweeted.

As of August 5 evening, cumulatively 1,51,449 Covid-19 positive cases have been confirmed in the state, which includes 2,804 deaths and 74,679 discharges.

Among the districts where the new cases were reported, Bengaluru urban tops the list accounting for 64,881 cases.

Regarding Bengaluru, Sudhakar said, there are 4,276 beds across 11 Covid care centres in Bengaluru.

"As of today morning, 936 of them i.e., 27.79 percent are vacant. Out of the 3,346 patients, 306 patients are due for discharge today," he said in another tweet.

Aimed at availing beds at Covid-19 hospitals for symptomatic patients and those in need, the government had decided to shift all asymptomatic patients to Covid care centres.

Once again Bengaluru witnesses massive protest against CAA, NRC, NPR

Bengaluru, Jan 21: A massive protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC), and National Population Register (NPR) was witnessed at Shivajinagar's Chandni Chowk area on Tuesday.

Scores of people came together carrying national flags and placards to register their protest in the city.

Speaking to ANI, a protester said, "People of all religious community have assembled here in Chandni Chowk to protest against CAA, NRC, and NPR. We the people of India are against this law."

Terming the law as anti-constitutional, he said that we support all the states who oppose the CAA. We demand the revocation of CAA and the government should remove conditions in NPR which lead to NRC.

CAA grants citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Parsi, Buddhist and Christian communities fleeing religious persecution from Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh and who came to India on or before December 31, 2014.
