Couple, three children killed in road mishap while returning from Dharmasthala temple

Bengaluru, Mar 5: A couple and their three children killed on the spot in a freak road accident on the Nelamangala-Kunigal highway on Monday night.

A speeding Scorpio heading towards Hassan lost control, hit the road divider and rammed to KSRTC Volvo bus coming from the opposite direction near Battarahalli in Nelamangala traffic police station limits.

The deceased has been identified as Elumalai (43), wife Kamala (35), sons, Kiran (14), Giridhar (12) and daughter Geetha 10. They are resident of Pantharapalya in Mysore Road.

Police said, the family has visited the temple in Dharmasthala and returning to city on Monday night, Elumalai was driving the car with high speed, around 10.50 pm, when he reached near Battarahalli, he lost control over his car and hit to the road divider, the vehicle toppled and hit to  the KSRTC Volvo bus coming in the opposite direction.

All five died on the spot and their bodies were taken out from the vehicle and shifted to Nelamangala Government hospital. Police said that, soon after the postmortem, bodies would be handed over to their relatives.

Bhimrao Chavan driver of the KSRTC Volvo bus going towards to Manipal was also injured in the accident.

Mangaluru, Feb 6: In a case of suspected political rivalry, a 28-year-old BJP activist was brutally assaulted by a gang at Munchoor here, police said on Thursday.

Police said that the injured identified as Yashodhar is undergoing treatment at Padmavathi Hospital here.

Four people namely – Diwakar, Dinesh Shetty, Ashwith Kulal and Yashodhara Agaramelu – assaulted Yashodhar and posed him with a death threat. It was reported that the gang had been keeping an eye on Yashodhar’s movements for some time now.

Udupi, May 23: Five more persons tested positive for coronavirus in the coastal district of Udupi today. 

They include three men aged 37, 55, 31 and two women aged 48 and 34. 

Among them four are returnees from Mumbai and one is foreign returnee.

With this the total number of covid-19 cases in the district rose to 55.

Mangaluru, Jul 3: A middle aged man killed his wife by pushing her down a stone quarry at Karambaru near Kavoor on the outskirts of the city today.

The victim has been identified as Shanta, aged around 35 years. The accused is her husband Ganesh, aged round 45 years.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. The exact reason for the crime is yet to be known. It is learnt that the husband and wife had quarreled before the murder.

A native of Hassan, Ganesh was working as a tipper driver. Shanta hailed from Salethadka in Kasargod. They couple have a son and a daughter. The family stays in a rented house at Kavoor.
