Kasaragod, Sept 5: A court here has acquitted six people accused in the murder of Communist Party of India (Marxist) activist M.B. Balakrishnan at Mangad, near Uduma, here in September 2013.
 
Pronouncing the verdict on Tuesday, the Principal District Sessions Court acquitted Congress workers A.K. Ranjith, 34; A. Suresh, 29; U. Sreejayan, 43; Shyam Mohan, 23; Majeed; and Shibu, stating that the prosecution had failed to produce enough proof to prove the involvement of the accused in the murder.
 
The prime accused in the case and Youth Congress activist Prajit drowned in a well earlier this year while he was trying to save a cock.
 
Balakrishnan was stabbed to death on the night of September 16, 2013, a Thiruvonam day, triggering political tension in the district for a while.

Bengaluru, May 19: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) has begun booking of tickets from May 18. Ticket counters have been opened after implementation of new guidelines for the fourth phase of COVID-19 nationwide lockdown.

People seeking to travel can book the tickets through KSRTC booking counters, authorised franchises booking counters and online, mobile booking, according to a release.

The advanced booking has started for Bengaluru-Shivamogga, Bengaluru-Mysuru, Bengaluru-Mangaluru routes, among others.

Bookings can be made upto 30 days in advance, as per the release.

Amid COVID-19, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation has restricted the operation services of the bus between 7 AM to 7 PM, said the release.

Passengers are permitted to travel with social distancing measures while the transport corporation will follow the standard operating procedure issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The MHA had issued updated guidelines after the implementation of the fourth phase of nationwide lockdown on May 17th.

Mangaluru, Mar 14: Following the avian flu outbreak in neighboring Kerala, authorities at Pilikula Biological Park in Moodushedde, on the outskirts of the city, have taken all precautionary measures to prevent the death of birds in the park.

Park Director H J Jayaprakash Bhandari said that "the behaviour of the birds is being monitored near open water sources on the premises'.

Though no deaths were reported in the Zoo or on lake premises, the staff continue to maintain a strict vigil on open water sources like lakes. He said the Park was being sanitized.
