Two college girls go missing in city

Mangalore, December 12: Two girls of the same compound on VT Road at Kudroli, here are missing from Friday, according to a compliant lodged at Bunder police station on Sunday.

The missing girls have been identified as Sharada alias Mangalya (17), daughter of Vishwanath and Lakshmi Nayak (20).

Sharada is a first year PU student at Besant Women’s College, while Lakshmi Nayak is a second year BA student at Gokarnanatheshwara College in the city. The duo disappeared mysteriously after they left their respective colleges on Friday.

When they did not return home till night their parents began to search for them in the houses of relatives and friends. However, they did not find any clue about their whereabouts.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.

Yavatmal, May 19: Four migrant workers were killed and 15 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in crashed into a truck in Yavatmal on Tuesday morning.

The bus was travelling from Solapur to Jharkhand. More details are currently awaited.

This comes amid nationwide COVID-19 lockdown has been extended to May 31, albeit with some relaxations.

Kozhikode, Jul 20: A 17-year old boy died of head injuries while trying to protect his mother from being assaulted by his drunk father here, police said on Sunday.

The youngster suffered the fatal injury after his head hit against the door when his father shoved him at their home on Saturday. Venu, had come home in an inebriated state and picked up a quarrel with his wife and started beating her up, they said.

On seeing this, Alan tried to intervene. Though the boy was rushed to the hospital, his life could not be saved, they added. Venu was arrested and a case has been registered.
