Man murdered by own mother, brother

Mangalore, December 13: In a heartrending tragedy, a 26 year-old youth was brutally murdered by his own elder brother and mother at Boodujalu at Nidle village in Belthangadi Taluk on Monday.

The deceased was identified as Lakshmisha alias Lakshminarayana (26). The accused were the victim’s brother Somashekar (32) and mother Rathnavathi (52).

According to sources, Lakshmisha and his brother Ravi had purchased land with their savings. But, his elder brother Somashekar and his mother were not happy with both of them, as they were against the inter-caste marriage of their sister.

On Monday a quarrel erupted between Rathnavathi and her son Lakshmisha over a trivial reason.

Enraged by this, his brother Somashekar rushed to the spot and assaulted Lakshmisha with a sharp weapon. Rathnavati too accused of involving in the murder.

Lakshmisha succumbed on the way to the hospital, sources added.

Uppinangadi police have registered a case.

Cops 'rescue' 6 girls after raiding spa in Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 19: Bengaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) on Wednesday raided a spa in Koramangala area and rescued six girls.

The owner of the spa is absconding and the manager has been arrested.

ED attaches Rs 78-cr worth assets of ex-ICICI Chairman Chanda Kochhar, others

New Delhi, Jan 11: Assets worth Rs 78 crore have been attached by the ED in connection with a money laundering probe against former ICICI Bank Chairman Chanda Kochhar and others, officials said on Friday.

A provisional order under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) has been issued for attachment of the properties that includes Kochhar's Mumbai-based house and some other assets belonging to a company linked to her, they said.

The book value of the attached assets is Rs 78 crore, they said.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is probing Kochhar, her husband Deepak Kochhar and others in a case of alleged irregularities and money laundering in giving loans by the bank to the Videocon group.
