Honour killing in Maddur

Mandya, January 6: A young girl from Aabalawadi village in Maddur taluk of forward Vokkaliga community-dominated Mandya district was hanged to death, allegedly by her own parents as punishment for falling in love with a Dalit boy.

According to a complaint filed at Koppa police station on Thursday by Thimmappa, brother of Govindaraju, the deceased girl Suvarna’s lover, the couple who hailed from the same village were in love. This angered Suvarna’s parents, who hanged her to death and attacked Govindaraju, who is absconding fearing for his life, the complaint said.

On November 6 last, the lovers were caught near Arasinakere Gate. The girl’s parents brought Suvarna to Govindaraju’s house and hanged her there, the complainant said.

A case under Section 302 (murder) of IPC has been registered against Davalan Ramakrishna, father of the girl. Koppa police sub-inspector Muniappa said it is true the girl hanged to death. Whether the parents are guilty will have to be investigated.

Station officers said the girl’s hanging to death two months ago was not reported by the parents and even the last rites are over. The only basis for investigation now is the complaint. Nevertheless, the police have named 10 accused, including the father of the girl.

Kochi, Feb 6: A 46-year-old Thailand national was allegedly raped by two men here, following which they were arrested, police said on Thursday.

The accused hailing from a north Kerala district have been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman.

Police said the accused-- Mohammed Insaf and his friend Ansaruddin from Kondotty in Malappuram district were arrested after recording the statement of the victim.

The woman from Thailand had been a Facebook friend of Insaf for the last seven months after she enrolled her child in a school in Malappuram district.

The woman who came from Bangkok recently to visit her child and was staying in a hotel here.

When Insaf came to meet the woman, he was accompanied by his friend Ansaruddin and both allegedly raped the woman at the hotel room, police said.

All formalities including medical examination of the woman were completed, police said.

The accused will be produced before the court on Thursday, they added.

Thane, Mar 22: Eight men were arrested at Kalyan in the district on Sunday as they were found playing cricket during the 'Janata curfew' being observed to check the spread of coronavirus, police said.

They were playing cricket at Kala Talao Maidan in the afternoon, police said.

Police also detained a boy in this connection, an official said.

"Action was taken against them for defying the prohibitory orders issued by the Thane Police Commissionerate.

They also went against the 'Janata curfew' being observed to curb the spread of coronavirus," the police official said.

The Mahatma Phule Chowk Police Station registered an offence against the accused under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 269 (negligent act likely to spread infection of disease dangerous to life), 290 (public nuisance).

They were also booked under the Maharashtra Police Act as well as the National Disaster Act 2005, the official said.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.
