Dubai, January 13: A woman visitor who responded to a job advertisement and went for an interview at the advertiser’s flat ended up being raped allegedly by the man.

The Dubai Police arrested the 44-year-old Iraqi businessman.

The incident came to light on January 8 when the 35-year-old Egyptian woman, the mother of three children, lodged a complaint with the Al Qusais police station that she was raped by an unknown Arab in his forties. She told the police she has three children who are in her country. She came to the UAE on a visit visa to look for a job.

On the day before, she went to a coffee shop where she found an advertisement of secretary’s vacancy in an Arabic newspaper. She called the mobile phone number given in the advertisement and an Arab (the suspect), who picked the phone, told her that he was busy and asked her to come for an interview.

Around 12.30pm on January 8, she took a taxi and the suspect guided the taxi driver to the company located at Freej Al Murar. After the taxi dropped her in a residential building, she went to the flat on the second floor. She rang the bell and the suspect opened the door. After she entered, he locked the door. The woman told the police that she felt uncomfortable on noticing that the company office was just a studio flat and there were no other staff.

The man asked her about her qualification and then tried to flirt with her. At this, she stood up and tried to leave, but he pushed her to the table and removed her pants despite her stiff resistance and raped her, she told the police.

The woman returned to the flat where she lives with some other women in Al Qusais. The other women took her to the hospital and to the Al Qusais police station to lodge the complaint.

The police made her undergo forensic tests which revealed that she had bruises on her head, left arm, stomach and internal parts, besides traces of semen.

The police asked the victim to call the suspect who promised that he would compensate her for what had happened by paying her Dh200. After that, he switched off the phone.

The police succeeded in tracing his whereabouts, raided the flat and arrested the suspect.

The police learnt that the suspect has been living in the country and he is a partner of a trading company, but it had no such job vacancy as he had advertised.

The suspect has been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution.
