Woman succumbs to injuries sustained in fire

Mangalore, January 25: A married woman, who sustained severe burns in a gas stove fire last week, succumbed to here injuries on Tuesday night.

Zainaba, wife of Aslam, a resident of Yemmekere, who had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city, following the fire mishap occurred at the kitchen room due to LGP cylinder leakage at her house near Yemmekere grounds in the city last Saturday, January 21.

She breathed her last at around 11:30 pm on Tuesday, without responding to any treatment, family sources confirmed.

It is learnt that deceased was a teacher at St Mary’s Girls School in the city till recently and she had quit the job planning to move abroad along with her husband.

Her husband, who too had sustained on his face and hands while rescuing Zainaba, has been recovering.

Groom among five arrested for violating COVID-19 guidelines during marriage procession in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jul 5: Odisha Police have arrested five persons including groom for gross negligence and violation of COVID-19 guidelines during his marriage procession in Berhampur.

"A case has been registered for violation of COVID-19 guidelines for organising a marriage procession with more than 50 guests in the premises of a hotel. They disregarded the compulsory use of mask and flouted social distancing norms," DIG Central Zone Satyabrata Bhoi said.

The incident happened on July 2.
"The case has been registered at Gopalpur PS under section 188/269/270 IPC, R/W Sec- 3 Epidemic Disease Act, and 34 IPC. Two vehicles used in the procession have also been seized. the arrested persons will be produced in the court," he added.

The District Collector has sealed the hotel for violating the COVID-19 norms.

Following the incident, the Chief Minister's office tweeted: "Odisha is in a crucial phase in the fight against COVID-19, hence, it is very essential that we all obey guidelines and regulations issued by State Government to contain the spread of COVID-19. Violation of the same would lead to strong action."

3 arrested for using plastic scrap to make jaggery

Muzaffarnagar, Jun 11: Three persons have been arrested for allegedly using plastic scrap to make jaggery at Bhokaheri village under Bhopa police station here, as official said on Thursday.

Police raided a jaggery manufacturing unite (kolhu) and arrested three persons on Wednesday, SHO, Bhopa police station Sanjive Kumar said.

Police have registered a case against five persons including the trio that was arrested while two of them managed to escape, he said, adding that two loaded tractor trollies of plastic scrap have been seized.
