Karwar, February 6: As many as 16 college students and few others sustained injuries in a head on collision between a speeding KSRTC bus and a car near Khaire cross in Kumta taluk.
The collision occurred on Monday evening when the students were returning from the college through the bus which was moving to Kimani village in Kumta. The car was bound to Gangolli from Karwar.
The car driver Girish Vittal Mesta (32) of Gangolli, was also among the injured.
Nagpur, Apr 5: A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Imambada area in Nagpur on Saturday due to financial distress, police said.
Nikhil Gavhane, who worked in a grocery shop, hanged himself as he had taken money from a person and was stressed over repayment, an official said.
"He was depressed since a week," the Imambada police station official said.
Mandya, Jun 14: In a tragic incident, a woman and her two children were drowned in a pond at Beeranahalli village in Nagamangala taluk of this district on Sunday.
Police said that the deceased have been identified as Geeta (40), and her two children Savita(19) and Soumya(14).
Savaitha is a degree student while Soumya was studying in 9th standard. The trio drowned in a pond where they had gone to wash their cows. The locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue them but could not save.
Nagpur, July 21: In a shocking incident, an 11-year-old boy allegedly killed self in Maharashtra's Nagpur city after being reprimanded by his mother for buying a samosa, police said on Tuesday.
Veeru Natthu Sahu was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his home in Ganga Nagar in Gittikhadan area on Sunday night, an official said.
The deceased boy's family was struggling to make ends meet after their small business was hit because of the coronavirus-induced lockdown, he said.
The Class 7 student had taken Rs 10 from home without asking his mother and bought a samosa, which was then eaten by his elder brother, the official said.
The boy's mother scolded him for taking money without her permission and asked him to get the snack for himself, following which the distraught minor allegedly went into the kitchen and hanged himself using a saree, he said.
The Gittikhadan police have registered a case of accidental death in this regard, the official added.
