Woman hangs herself after dowry harassment

Bangalore, February 27: A 23-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence here following dowry harassment, police said today.

Roopa, a housewife with a one-year-old son, killed herself last night after she was allegedly harassed "physically and mentally" by her husband and his relatives, her relatives charged.

Her husband Uday Raj has been taken into police custody and is being interrogated, police said.

A case of dowry death and abetment to suicide has been registered against him, Roopa's mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, they said.

Yavatmal, May 19: Four migrant workers were killed and 15 others were injured after a bus they were travelling in crashed into a truck in Yavatmal on Tuesday morning.

The bus was travelling from Solapur to Jharkhand. More details are currently awaited.

This comes amid nationwide COVID-19 lockdown has been extended to May 31, albeit with some relaxations.

Nagpur, Apr 5: A 23-year-old man allegedly committed suicide in Imambada area in Nagpur on Saturday due to financial distress, police said.

Nikhil Gavhane, who worked in a grocery shop, hanged himself as he had taken money from a person and was stressed over repayment, an official said.

"He was depressed since a week," the Imambada police station official said.

New Delhi, Jan 2: A 20-year-old man set his motorcycle on fire after he was challaned by the traffic police in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area on Wednesday, police said.

Vikas, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was challaned by the traffic police for riding the motorcycle without helmet, a senior police official said.

The traffic police challaned him and impounded the motorcycle, following which Vikas set the bike on fire, the officer said.

A case has been registered and the accused arrested, the officer added.
