9 debarred for malpractice in Comed-K test

Bangalore, May 7: A total of nine students were debarred from the Comed-K?examination conducted across the State on Sunday.


Two students held for malpractice in Tumkur have been handed over to the police.

A ?S?Srikanth, Chief Executive Officer, Comed-K, said suitable action would be initiated against the candidates caught for malpractice during the test.

The Consortium had earlier announced that students caught for malpractice would not only be debarred from taking up the Comed-K test again, but a request would be made to all examination authorities across the country to ban such students from appearing for any entrance test. The details of debarred students will be uploaded on the website of all colleges.

Comed-K authorities said of the 80,700 students who enrolled for the test, 85 per cent appeared for Physics and Chemistry papers, 81 per cent for Biology and 88 per cent for Mathematics.

The answer keys of all the papers were hosted on the Comed-k website - www.comedk.org - later at night.

‘Fairly easy’

Most students found the test papers fairly easy though they felt they did not get sufficient time to complete the Mathematics paper.

Arnab Banerjee, a student of Loyola School in Ranchi, said with adequate preparation, the exam was well within the reach of students.

Banerjee, who has applied for BITSAT, AIEEE and entrance exams of other states, says he is keen on securing a seat in Karnataka as he perceives it to be a safe place for students.

Chaitanya Shashikanth, a medical seat aspirant said, “Overall it was good. Biology paper was the easiest of the lot.

I am confident of getting more than 80 per cent of the answers right.” Results of the examination are expected on June 8.

Amaravati, Jul 31: Nine people have died after allegedly consuming sanitiser in Prakasam district of Andhra Pradesh today, the police said.

Prakasam district Superintendent of Police Siddharth Kaushal said the people had been consuming sanitiser for the past few days, mixing it with water and soft drinks.

"We are also investigating whether they laced the sanitiser with any other toxic substances," the official said.

"Their family members say these people have been consuming sanitiser for the past ten days. We are sending the sanitiser stocks, being sold in the area, for examination," he added.

Kurichedu in Prakasam district has been under lockdown due to rise in coronavirus cases and hence, liquor shops have also been shut since the past few days.

Habitual drinkers were said to be consuming sanitisers that have alcohol content, apart from illicitly distilled arrack.

The police said two beggars near a temple were the first to fall victim on Thursday night. While one of them was found dead at the spot, another died in the government hospital in Darsi town, they said.

A third person was also taken to the Darsi hospital late on Thursday night after he fell unconscious but he was declared brought dead. Six others who fell ill after allegedly consuming sanitiser, died this morning.

Others who fell ill after consuming sanitiser are undergoing treatment at their residences in the village, the police added.

Mumbai, Feb 11: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband over debt and illness in suburban Powai here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when Sheela Ajit Lad was found dead by her neighbours at Sukh Shanti Co-operative Society at around 9.30 pm on Monday, an official said.

The victim was allegedly killed by her husband Ajit Lad, who hit her on the head with a heavy object, slit her wrists and strangled her to death, he said.

The accused absconded at around 7.30 pm, leaving a note at the crime scene, saying he was going to commit suicide and had killed his wife because he was heavily in debt and she was suffering from an ailment, the official said.

The childless couple lived alone in the apartment, he added.

"On the basis of the note, we have registered a case of murder against Ajit Lad and have launched a manhunt for him. We have not traced him or found his body as he had mentioned suicide in the note," deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Zone X Ankit Goyal said.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jun 10: The man who fled from the Medical College Hospital where he was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 committed suicide on Wednesday morning after being brought back. He used his bed sheet to hang himself from the ceiling.

Hailing from Anad near Nedumangadu, the man, who was undergoing treatment in the isolation room set up at KHRWS pay ward, escaped from the hospital and boarded two KSRTC buses to reach his home.

The Health Department had said the latest tests had returned negative and he was to be discharged on Wednesday. However, City Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay had claimed that one more test result of the person was awaited.

The man was blocked by locals upon his arrival at Anad. He was later taken back to the hospital and the police had registered a case against him under the Kerala Public Health Act and Epidemic Diseases Ordinance.
