Bangalore, June 19: The 47-year-old daughter of former Congress MP from Koppal H G Ramulu, who was in the City to visit her daughter, was kidnapped from Jayanagar Shopping Complex on Monday evening.

The woman, Vishnuvandana, is married to Ravikumar, a hotelier in Hyderabad. The couple had come to the City two days ago to visit their daughter, who is married to Surekumar. Vishnuvandana’s cousin Dolly too had come with them. The three were to return to Hyderabad on Monday night by bus.

Vishnuvandana and Dolly had gone out for shopping at the Jaynagar Shopping Complex. When they came out, a middle aged man and a woman approached Vishnuvandana and asked her whether she was the daughter of H G Ramulu. They said they wanted to talk to her.

The two started a conversation with Vishnuvandana as she and Dolly continued shopping. Soon, Dolly found Vishnuvanadana missing along with the couple. She frantically searched the shopping complex premises and also repeatedly called her on the mobile phone.

When all her attempts to find Vishnuvandana failed, she called up Ravikumar and lodged a complaint with the Jayanagar police.

An hour after Vishnuvandana went missing, Ravikumar got a call from her on his mobile phone. A weeping Vishnuvandana told him that a couple had kidnapped her.

She told him that she was being taken to an undisclosed location in a car.

The couple speaking Kannada, were conversing among themselves that they should demand a ransom of Rs 40 lakh from the family. But the kidnappers cut the call forcibly soon after. The call lasted for about two minutes, police said.

Joint Commissioner (Crime) Pranab Mohanty and DCP (South) Sonia Narang visited the spot. The police have formed two special teams to crack the case. Senior police officials suspect the handiwork of some known persons behind the kidnapping.

Though family members have ruled out any family dispute or rivalry, the police are investigating all angles.

Ramulu too visited the Jayanagar Police Station. He ruled out a family dispute or rivalry to be the reason for the kidnap.
