Teen dies of cardiac arrest on flight

Hyderabad, July 18: An Emirates flight, EK 374, flying from Dubai to Bangkok, made an emergency landing at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Shamshabad, on Tuesday morning after a passenger suffered a cardiac arrest. The 19-year-old passenger, Ali Ibrahim Parwish Sangoor Al Balooshi, was attended to by airport doctors in the aircraft and was declared dead following which his body was shifted to the RGIA Apollo Hospital. The patient was a resident of Dubai.


The Emirates aircraft from Dubai landed at the Shamshabad airport at around 5.04am. Doctors at Apollo said the teenager suffered a cardiac arrest while on the flight. He was declared dead at 5.36am. Confirming the incident, Emirates officials in Dubai in their official statement said that the flight eventually departed from Hyderabad (for Bangkok) at around 6.10am. The officials, however, did not provide any other information about the deceased passenger. Police sources claimed that Al Balooshi was travelling to Bangkok with his parents for an obesity treatment. He weighed around 220 kgs.


The RGIA police registered a case under section 174 of the CrPC (unnatural death that leads to inquest and post-mortem) following a complaint lodged by Emirates. Police confirmed that the passenger died a natural death on the aircraft, thus ruling out any possibility of foul play. "After preliminary investigation and post-mortem, the body was handed over to his parents at around 12.30pm, who were also travelling with him," said D Durga Prasad, inspector, RGIA police station. The body was kept at the airport cargo thereafter. "The boy's parents took the body back to Dubai on a late night flight," the inspector added.

May 12: A Madhya Pradesh Police sub-inspector was fined Rs 5,000 after he performed a daredevil act of balancing himself on two moving cars, copying the famous stunt from Ajay Devgn-starrer 'Singham'.

Manoj Yadav, the in-charge of Narsinghgarh police post in Damoh district, was also warned against any such daredevilry in future, police sources said on Monday.

Sporting shades as the hero of the cop drama film and wearing his police uniform, Yadav got the entire episode video-graphed, they said.

As the video of the stunt went viral on social media, senior police officials took serious note of it as it will send wrong signals to youngsters, the sources said.

Inspector General, Sagar range, Anil Sharma directed Damoh Superintendent of Police Hemant Chauhan to probe the matter.

After an investigation, Chauhan imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the sub-inspector and warned him not to repeat such mistakes.

Pratapgarh, Jun 2: In a shocking incident, a young man was tied to a tree and set afire by the family of a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh late on Monday night.

The man, 25, was a resident of Bhujauni village under Fatanpur police station, and he died on the spot.

Enraged over the incident, his family members and local people turned violent and set two police vehicles on fire.

Additional forces were rushed in to control the situation that remains tense.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Pratapgarh, Abhishek Singh, "Some people barged into the house of Ambika Patel and dragged him away. They then tied Patel to a tree some distance away and set him on fire after sprinkling petrol on him. They fled immediately after." Agitated family members and villagers assembled at the site and set a 112 police response vehicle (PRV) and another police jeep on fire. They were demanding immediate arrest and action against the accused.

The official said that Patel's relatives claimed that he was having an affair with a woman from his village and this had resulted in many face-offs between the families.

Patel had reportedly shared a video clip of the woman on social media a few months ago further increasing tension between the families.

The woman's family members had registered a police complaint against Patel in this connection at the Fatanpur police station that led to his arrest. He was released from jail recently, police added.

The woman had been recently selected as a police constable and was posted to Kanpur.

The SP said that an FIR had been registered on the complaint of the victim's family and efforts were on to arrest the accused.

Vijayawada, Aug 9: The number of those killed in the fire at a hotel being used as a COVID-19 facility in Vijayawada rose to 10 on Sunday, said Vikrant Patil, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

Meanwhile, the Andhra Pradesh government announced Rs 50 lakh ex-gratia each to the families of those who lost their lives in the incident.

According to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister's Office (CMO), Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy also ordered an in-depth probe into the accident and directed authorities to take steps to ensure better medical services to the victims of the accident.

"The hotel was taken on lease and run by Ramesh Hospitals, a private hospital where COVID-19 patients were being treated. 40 patients and 10 medical staff were at the hotel at the time of the incident. 

Officials were directed to launch immediate rescue measures," said Mekathoti Sucharitha, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Prime Minister Narendra Modi also condoled the loss of the lives in the fire mishap and spoke to Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy over the phone and enquired about the accident.

The mishap took place in hotel Swarna Palace which was taken on lease and run by a private hospital for COVID patients.
