Two women teachers arrested in West Bengal for strip searching a student

Birbhum, August 5: Two women teachers were arrested on Saturday for allegedly strip searching a girl student on the suspicion that she had stolen money, at Kaligati Smriti Nari Siksha Niketan in Birbhum district of West Bengal.

The girl, a student of class-XI, filed a complaint with the police that two teachers, Chaitali Gupta and Lipika Saha, took her to the teachers' room yesterday and strip searched her on suspicions that she had stolen Rs. 150 from another student.

The money, however, was not found on her.


"I wasn't even in that room from where the money was stolen, I was in another room. Later I got to know that along with the money, there was a Bangladesh coin. I also had a similar coin so they suspected me. But I didn't have the other money," said the victim.

The girl's father told the police that she broke into tears after returning home.

Gupta and Saha were produced in a local court which granted them bail.

The headmistress of the school, Kalpana Roy, however, contended that the matter was exaggerated and only the student's bag was searched.

Bengaluru, Feb 5: City Crime Branch (CCB) of Bengaluru City have arrested two drug peddlers from Kerala and have seized banned products from their possession.

According to officials the arrested persons have been identified as Shinto Thomas (35) of Wayanad and Tajudden Talat (29) of Thiruvananthapuram.

"We have seized 4 kg 350 grams of Hashish oil, 21.5 kgs of Ganja, Rs. 9300 cash, two mobile phones, two ganja crushing tools, and 625 empty boxes and other articles from them", police said in a statement.

Behrampur, Jun 7: A migrant labourer spent two days in jungle after allegedly being denied entry to a quarantine centre and his village in Behrampur.

According to a local from the village, no one helped the labourer. "He came from Chennai. He went to the police and block office but no one helped. Then, he went to the jungle."

Later, the police took him to the quarantine centre.

As per the Union Health Ministry, there are 2,608 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the Odisha, including 996 active cases, 1,604 recovered/discharged/migrated and 8 deaths.

New Delhi, Jan 2: A 20-year-old man set his motorcycle on fire after he was challaned by the traffic police in south Delhi's Greater Kailash area on Wednesday, police said.

Vikas, a resident of Sangam Vihar, was challaned by the traffic police for riding the motorcycle without helmet, a senior police official said.

The traffic police challaned him and impounded the motorcycle, following which Vikas set the bike on fire, the officer said.

A case has been registered and the accused arrested, the officer added.
