17-year-old raped twice in 24 hours

August 12, 2012

Ahmedabad, August 12: A 17-year-old girl, resident of Maninagar, was raped by her computer class instructor and later by a resident of Vejalpur, in a matter of 24 hours. The girl was abandoned at Victoria Garden near Ellisbridge by the latter from where her parents brought her home and filed a complaint for rape.

According to Maninagar police, Rajvi (name changed), comes from a well-to-do family in Maninagar. She was pursuing her diploma in computer applications from an institute in Krishnabaug in the same area. As per investigators, she fell in love with Mitesh Patel, 24, an instructor at the institute.

"Patel took her to a guest house in Khadia after the classes got over on Thursday on the pretext of excursion and had sex with her. The duo then went to places such as Law Garden and Iskcon Mall and then came back to the classes where Patel told her that they can go around together but he cannot marry her. She got heartbroken and after a major fight, took an auto absentmindedly for Jamalpur to commit suicide," said a police official.

The auto driver started talking to her when she told him that she wanted to go to Mumbai and pursue a career. After hearing this, the auto driver, later identified as Imran Khan, took her to his friend Mohammed Shaikh, a youth in late twenties.

"Rajvi stated that Shaikh befriended her and told her that he had contacts in Mumbai and he could help her. Shaikh later took her to a guest house in Danilimda in the night for stay and raped her four times. In the morning, Shaikh and Imran Khan took her in Khan's auto to Victoria Garden and abandoned her there," said the official. One of the duo then called up Rajvi's father about her location from a pay phone, said the official.

V J Gadhavi, inspector of Maninagar police station, said that Patel has been arrested after the complaint and the search for the other two accused is on. "The girl has been sent for medical checkup," he said.

Sources said that Rajvi was adopted by her parents at the age of two. She had earlier fled from home two times and had come back and also tried to commit suicide once. When she did not return home on Thursday, her father had intimated Maninagar police.

New Delhi, Jan 18: Two men accused of kidnapping and brutally raping a five-year-old girl in Delhi in 2013 have been held guilty by a court in the national capital today. The POCSO court, which will announce the quantum of punishment on January 30, said, "In our society the minor girls are worshipped as goddess on certain occasions but in the present case the victim child had experienced exceptional depravity and extreme brutality."

"The crime against the victim was committed in a most grotesque and revolting manner and the collective conscience of the community was shaken," the court added while holding the accused - Manoj Shah and Pradeep Kumar - guilty.

The assault which took place just four months after Nirbhaya's brutal rape had grabbed headlines with its shocking details. The girl, who was named Gudiya by sections of the media, went missing and the police told her parents to look for her themselves. She was found two days later, tied in the basement of the east Delhi house she lived in with traces of candles and bottles inside her private parts.

The convicts had fled after raping Gudiya and shoving a candle and bottle inside her private parts, leaving her at Manoj Shah's room, after believing the five-year-old to be dead. The child was rescued 40 hours later on April 17, 2013.

Manoj Shah and Pradeep Kumar were arrested by Delhi police separately from Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga in Bihar respectively in 2013. The charge sheet was filed on May 24 that year and charges were framed by the court on July 11. But, it took more than five years to complete the recording of the statement of 57 prosecution witnesses in the POCSO court.

"Though the trial should have been completed in two years, we are happy we got justice," said the father of the girl.

One of the convicts, Manoj Shah, allegedly assaulted some reporters while being taken out of the courtroom.

Kota, Feb 26: At least 24 people died and four others sustained injuries as a private bus carrying a wedding party fell into a river on Kota–Dausa highway in Bundi district on Wednesday morning, police said.

The wedding party with 28 persons on board was headed to Sawai Madhopur from Kota early morning when the driver apparently lost balance of the bus while traversing a bridge near Papdi village under Lekhari police station limits, Lakheri Sub-Inspector Rajendra Kumar said.

The bus, subsequently, plunged into Mej river from the bridge that had no wall or railing, Kumar said.

Thirteen people died on the spot while 10 others succumbed to their injuries on way to hospital, he added.

The deaths include 11 men, 10 women and three children.

The injured were rushed to Lekhari government hospital from where the critically injured are being referred to a government hospital in Kota, the SI further said.

Most of the injured people were rescued with the help of locals in the village, he added.

Mej river is a tributary of the Chambal river in Rajasthan.

Bengaluru, Apr 12: Two police officials have been booked for murder in connection with the alleged custodial death of a theft accused in Bengaluru rural district, police said on Saturday.

A case of murder has been registered against inspector Raghu and sub-inspector Rakesh C for the alleged custodial death of Munikulla on Friday afternoon, Superintendent of Police, Bengaluru rural district, Ravi D Channannavar told reporters.

"Yes. A case has been registered and transferred to CID," he said.

Munikulla, a resident of Nadavatti village, was picked up by the police on April 7, his wife Dhanalakshmi told the media on Saturday.

"Policemen took my husband with them. They beat him up and killed him," she said.

Alleging that Munikulla was a victim of police high- handedness, Hoskote MLA Sharath Bachegowda said he had lodged a complaint with the state DGP Praveen Sood demanding a CID inquiry into the case.

An FIR was registered against Munikulla on Friday evening based on a complaint by the cashier of the liquor store, who had claimed that the CCTV footage showed victim's involvement.
