Bangalore, October 30: Unable to suffer the harassment from her friend, Bhagyamma’s relatives, Kalavathi (18) allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself at her house in Magadi taluk .

The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Gollarahatti village in Magadi taluk in the limits of Kudur police station of Ramanagaram district.

Kalavathi was a resident of Gollarahatti and an employee of a private factory in Kunigal. She and Bhagyamma of Chinna Thimmayyana Palya were close friends and colleagues.

Love affair

Bhagyamma fell in love with a boy and eloped a fortnight ago. Her parents came to Kalavathi's house and asked her about their daughter's whereabouts and sought details about Bhagyamma’s affair.

Though she told them that she was not aware about her friend, her relatives started calling her frequently on her cellphone, seeking Bhagyamma's details. Kalavathi lodged a complaint in the local police station and the police warned Bhagyamma’s relatives against pestering her.

However, Bhagyamma’s parents and other relatives reportedly came to Kalavathi’s house on Sunday evening and picked a quarrel with her alleging that Kalavathi was behind Bhagyamma's love affair.

Suicide note

Reportedly frustrated over the repeated harassment, she hanged herself after leaving a suicide note that Bhagyamma’s relatives were behind her death.

She also alleged that some of them tried to outrage her modesty to pressure her to reveal Bhagyamma’s whereabouts.
Case registered

“In her suicide note, Kalavathi had mentioned some people responsible for her death.
We have registered a case of abetment of suicide. All the accused are absconding and efforts are on to nab them,” a police official said.
