Rowdy chased, bludgeoned to death

Bangalore, November 18: A history-sheeter was chased, stabbed and bludgeoned to death in full public view in JC Nagar 21st main, Kurubarahalli in Mahalakshmi Layout on Saturday morning.

A group of three to four assailants , who came in motorcycles and had masked their faces, attacked 25-year-old Karthik alias Lodde using machetes , knives and choppers.

Eyewitnesses said the assailants had worn monkey caps and their mobikes bore no number plates. They said they first heard a shout and saw Karthik running in the area at around 9 am. "First they repeatedly stabbed him in the stomach. When Karthik fell down, they bludgeoned him to death," passersby said.

A resident of JC Nagar in Kurubarahalli, Karthik was a school dropout. He worked as mason before turning into an anti-social element, Mahalakshmi Layout police said.

"Karthik was facing many criminal charges. He was prime accused in two murder cases," police said.

Assailants cooked bird meat

Police came across signs of bird meat cooked in the area where the assailants were on the prowl. They had apparently cooked chicken and pigeon. "Feathers and bones were seen at the spot where the arms were recovered. Locals said they had seen them spending the night here," police added.



Planned attack?

Preliminary police investigations revealed that the assailants were well prepared for the attack. "We recovered machetes, knives and choppers that were hidden in nearby roads. The killers had closely monitored Karthik's movements and then attacked," police said.



17-year-old boy killed in JP Nagar

A17-year-old youth was stabbed to death in Doreswamy Palya, Bannerghatta Road in JP Nagar. The victim has been identified as Chandra Shekar, resident of JP Nagar 6th phase. A mechanic by profession, Chandra Shekar had disputes with many of his friends over sharing Ganesh festival fund, sources said. "He regularly visited a hotel here. The stabbing took place near the hotel at around 11.30 pm," police added.

Kochi, Jun 22: A 54-day-old baby suffered brain damage after she was allegedly slapped and thrown on a cot at home by his father in Angamaly municipality of Ernakulam district, police said.

Doctor Sojan Ipe of MOSC Medical College Hospital at Kolenchery said that the damage caused to the brain is serious. The child was admitted with bleeding in the brain on Friday.

On Saturday, 40-year-old pastor Shaiju Thomas, who is the child's father was arrested by the Angamaly police in connection with the incident. He is currently lodged at the Covid first-line treatment centre at Angamaly.

Shaiju has been charged with IPC Section 307 (attempt to murder) and under the Juvenile Justice Act.

According to Angamaly Police, ''the accused was always doubtful of his wife and raised questions over the parenthood of the child. He had slapped the child on multiple occasions. She fell unconscious on Thursday night after a similar attack and was taken to the hospital. We have so far received enough evidence against the accused.''

New Delhi, Apr 14: A 35-year-old man has been booked by the police for refusing to eat food at a quarantine centre on the ground that it had been cooked by a Dalit.

Reports said Siraj Ahmad, a native of Bhujouli Khurd village under Khadda police station in Kushinagar district, had returned from Delhi on March 29, and was staying at the quarantine centre at the village primary school along with other four people.

On Friday, village head, Lilawati Devi, in absence of the cook, prepared food in the quarantine centre for all the five people but Siraj refused to eat it.

Police, after conducting investigation, registered a FIR against him under the SC/ST Act on Monday.

The village head had lodged a written complaint with the police on Friday and also informed sub-divisional magistrate Desh Deepak Singh and block development officer Ramakant.

SHO Khadda police station, R.K. Yadav said that a case against Siraj was registered under the SC/ST Act.

Meanwhile, on Saturday evening, Vijay Dubey, the local BJP MLA, went to the house of village head and asked her to serve him food cooked by her.

"Untouchability is a social evil that cannot be tolerated at any cost," he said.

Belagavi, Jan 19: Miscreants have murdered a couple and their son at Dodwad Village, about 50 km from here, in the wee hours on Sunday.

The victims were identified as Shvananda Basavanthappa Andanashetty, his wife Shanthavva and their son Vinod.

Senior Police officials visited the spot and a case was registered at Dodwad Police Station.
