Dubai, December 11: A tragic accident on Sunday evening claimed two lives and injured six others in Al Warqa area of Dubai.

The accident that occurred in a sandy area killed two Emirati youths – a male and a female –who were sticking their heads over the roof hatch of their car when it flipped over.

Major-General Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen said the car carrying eight people turned turtle at about 7.50pm, when the driver lost control.

Rescue teams were dispatched immediately but they found it difficult to access the because of the sand. The injured Arab and Asian girls in the vehicle, aged between 18 and 23, are being treated for their injuries, he added.

The deaths are a result of abusing traffic rules and ethics, said the official and urged families to protect children while on the roads.

According to eyewitnesses, the victims’ car was being driven recklessly and performing stunts as it climbed and descended the sandy mounds in the area, also endangering lives of passengers in other cars.

Witnesses spoke of a woman and man hanging their bodies out of windows and from the roof while the car was being veered right and left, raising sands while the passengers laughed and cheered.

The witnesses said that the car overturned when the driver made a turn to the right, with the dead woman and man falling to the ground before the car fell on top of them.

Police say that during recent car and bike seizures, parents of young drivers have objected with some even making complaints about police behaviour.

Noida, Jul 28: A doctor admitted at a private hospital in Noida has been accused of sexually harassing a patient in his isolation ward, where both were undergoing treatment for COVID-19, the police said.

The 20-year-old woman, in her complaint to the police, alleged that the incident took place on Monday and based on that a case was filed at the local expressway police station, they said.

A senior police official said an investigation is underway and there might be lapses on part of the hospital which allegedly admitted a man and a woman in the same isolation ward, in violation of the norms.

The woman and the doctor had tested positive for coronavirus last week, according to officials.

"The woman was in the isolation ward of the private hospital. There was a man, a medical practitioner, who too was infected with coronavirus and was sharing the ward with her," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Noida, Ranvijay Singh said.

He said the woman alleged molestation and upon being informed, the police immediately lodged a case and initiated a probe into the matter.

"There appears to be some irresponsibility on part of the hospital too. We are communication with the medical departments to check whether the patients were being kept in accordance with the guidelines," Mr Singh said.

He said the accused is still in isolation but the police will reach out for his statement following due protocols of COVID-19.

"All necessary action will be taken as per the truth that will emerge after a thorough investigation," Mr Singh said.

Jaipur, Mar 18: Initially buried as per Islamic traditions, an unidentified man's body was exhumed and later cremated after he was found to be a Hindu in Rajasthan's Tonk district, police said.

The family members identified the body of Mahaveer Sahu on Tuesday, a day after the burial, as they stumbled upon photos of the deceased that had circulated on social media.

The man was brought to a government hospital by locals in an unconscious state on March 12 and he died on March 13, according to Purani Tonk police station SHO Shivlal.

The man was said to be a liquor addict and was found unconscious on the road, he added.

The body was kept at the mortuary for three days awaiting identification. Despite efforts to trace the next of kin, the identity could not be ascertained and members of Hindu and Muslim communities were brought in to take a decision, Shivlal said.

The community leaders presumed that he was a Muslim after examining the body and the burial took place as per Islamic funeral traditions on Monday, he added.

Meanwhile, Sahu's family members saw the photo of his body that had circulated on a WhatsAapp group and identified him later that day. They rushed to the hospital and then to the police station in the night where they were informed that the body had been buried.

“The body was exhumed with permission from the sub-divisional magistrate on Tuesday and handed over to the family members after proper identification. Members of the Muslim community led by an Imam were also present and gave in writing that they have no objection,” Shivlal said.

The body was later cremated by his family members.
