Bangalore, Apr 28: Unable to come to terms with his wife’s death, a 35-year-old man committed suicide after killing his daughter at a jungle lodge and resort in Bannerghatta National Park. The incident came to light on Saturday.Man_kills_daughter

Aravind Ramaswamy Reddy, employed with an MNC in Singapore and his daughter Lakshya (8) checked into the resort run by the tourism department on Friday and took a guided tour of the park in the afternoon. They were served dinner in their room, an employee of the resort told police.

An attendant who called on the father-daughter duo at their room on Saturday morning grew suspicious after nobody responded to his knocks. He alerted his colleagues, who broke open the door, only to find Aravind and Lakshya dead.

Lakshya was found lying on a cot, frothing at the mouth while Aravind lay on the floor with a towel around his neck. His legs were tied with plastic string. The Bannerghatta police were immediately informed.

The police claimed to have recovered a suicide note, wherein Aravind held himself responsible for his action. Depression over his wife’s death drove him to kill himself and his daughter, Aravind wrote in the note. He also appealed his family to bury him and Lakshya next to his wife and burn the gifts the couple had exchanged over the years.

Sources said the police found sleeping pills in the room. The police suspected that Aravind might have served Lakshya “rasam” spiked with sleeping pills for dinner.

He then tied his legs and strangled himself with a towel. It was not clear whether Aravind consumed sleeping pills as well.

Aravind met Sindhura while pursuing engineering in a City college. They fell in love and got married. However, the halcyon days of their married life came to an abrupt end as Sindhura died of renal failure four years ago.

Lakshya, a class IV student at Lawrence School in J P Nagar, was living with her uncle Kishore at J P Nagar, 7th Phase. Aravind stayed alone in Singapore, but visited India at least once in three months. He arrived a few days ago and took the family to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands for a holiday.

Mumbai, Feb 11: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband over debt and illness in suburban Powai here, police said on Tuesday.

The incident came to light when Sheela Ajit Lad was found dead by her neighbours at Sukh Shanti Co-operative Society at around 9.30 pm on Monday, an official said.

The victim was allegedly killed by her husband Ajit Lad, who hit her on the head with a heavy object, slit her wrists and strangled her to death, he said.

The accused absconded at around 7.30 pm, leaving a note at the crime scene, saying he was going to commit suicide and had killed his wife because he was heavily in debt and she was suffering from an ailment, the official said.

The childless couple lived alone in the apartment, he added.

"On the basis of the note, we have registered a case of murder against Ajit Lad and have launched a manhunt for him. We have not traced him or found his body as he had mentioned suicide in the note," deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Zone X Ankit Goyal said.

Pratapgarh, Jun 2: In a shocking incident, a young man was tied to a tree and set afire by the family of a woman with whom he was allegedly having an affair in Pratapgarh district of Uttar Pradesh late on Monday night.

The man, 25, was a resident of Bhujauni village under Fatanpur police station, and he died on the spot.

Enraged over the incident, his family members and local people turned violent and set two police vehicles on fire.

Additional forces were rushed in to control the situation that remains tense.

The body has been sent for post-mortem.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP), Pratapgarh, Abhishek Singh, "Some people barged into the house of Ambika Patel and dragged him away. They then tied Patel to a tree some distance away and set him on fire after sprinkling petrol on him. They fled immediately after." Agitated family members and villagers assembled at the site and set a 112 police response vehicle (PRV) and another police jeep on fire. They were demanding immediate arrest and action against the accused.

The official said that Patel's relatives claimed that he was having an affair with a woman from his village and this had resulted in many face-offs between the families.

Patel had reportedly shared a video clip of the woman on social media a few months ago further increasing tension between the families.

The woman's family members had registered a police complaint against Patel in this connection at the Fatanpur police station that led to his arrest. He was released from jail recently, police added.

The woman had been recently selected as a police constable and was posted to Kanpur.

The SP said that an FIR had been registered on the complaint of the victim's family and efforts were on to arrest the accused.
